PURA CUP

Post by Donny »

After a recalled Murray Goodwin went for a duck as W.A. crashed to 5/68 against Tassie, he was just about on his last chance for the Warriors.

Michael DiVenuto (101) and Daniel Marsh (88) ensured a first innings lead of 127 for the visitors who would have been hoping for maximum points to climb off the bottom of the ladder.

Goodwin, however, batted for 7 hours and 22 minutes for 176 and earned a draw for his team and Man of the Match status for himself. Perhaps he'll get another game or two. Lol.

Pura Cup Ladder: Bushrangers 20, Blues 18, Bulls 16, Redbacks 14, Warriors 6 and Tigers 2. Bulls and warriors have a game in hand.

Best performers with the bat are: Jason Arnberger 471 @ 67, Michael Bevan 456 @ 76 and Matthew Elliott 433 @ 62 and best bowlers are: Brett Lee 21 @ 16, Mick Lewis 18 @ 21 and Damien Wright 17 @ 23.

Highlights of first two days of Pura Cup matches:

Martin Love again enjoys the Bellereive wicket as he racks up another big ton (190!)

Justin Langer charges back into form with 168 and Murray Goodwin continues his return to the runs with 108 n.o. for the Warriors after Beau Casson takes 6 wickets on debut!

Blues still 18 behind Bushies with only 5 second innings wickets remaining as Mark Waugh and Michael Clarke fight back with an unfinished 59 run p'ship.

Earlier, Steve Waugh (2/15) and Stuart MacGill (3/56)helped limit the Vic's lead to 128.

Mick Lewis continues his good form with the ball with 3/38 in the first innings and 2/27 so far in the second.

Shane Harwood takes 5 wickets to help dismiss the Blues for 150. That gave him 8/79 for the match.

The Bushies won easily and go 8 points clear of NSW at the top of the ladder.

CQ I like going to watch the Pura Cup matches! It's probably a good thing that Slats plays for NSW and not Victoria because I would be at the cricket way too much then! I can't wait until February when NSW come and play us down here, major perve on Slats time, hmm no I mean it will be a good game! I look up all the Pura Cup scores on the net because the news don't cover it properly they only ever mention when Victoria play but I think Sports tonight isn't too bad! Slats only made 12 runs I am heart broken! I am very happy that Victoria killed them though!

GO THE VICS!
i agree mrs tarrant, it is so hard to get scores from pura cup matches even wen the vics are playing so well. the only way i see them is by watching new zealand play on foxtel and the updated scores come up.
i wish i could have seen steve waugh go out. he still thinks he has a lot to offer the world cup side ... yeah by not playing.

luv jess

Did Slats play, Mrs Tazza? Didn't notice his name amongst the runs.

I think a lot of Victorias credit must go to David Hookes. He dared to be different with the squad he picked and wasnt scared to get rid of Fleming and Miller (similar to Blight getting rid of older players). At the time he copped a bit of stick for this so hopefully with the Vics going well people will be eating humble pie. He brought fresh blood into the team!!!. Imagine how good Victoria would have been if they recruited Ryan Campbell.

Hopefully the selectors (Australian) start rewarding some of Victorias efforts by naming more Victorians in squads.

Full points to W.A., Vic., and Q'land.

Stars for the Warriors were Langer and Goodwin who both racked up 164s and Casson, in his debut match, who took 10/176 from 67.4 overs. Williams kept himself under the selectors notice with 5/38 to wreck the Redback's second innings and 6/83 for the match. Fitzgerald had a good match with the bat, scoring 63 and 106 while Blewett got 48 and 54.

Love's 190 set the Bulls up for a big first innings. Tassie were knocked over twice due to solid performances from Noffke (6/115) and Symonds (5/82). Only Cox, with 88 in the first innings, came up with any real resistance.

LADDER: Bushrangers 26. Bulls 22. Blues 18. Redbacks 14. Warriors 12. Tigers 2.

Queensland already have a first innings lead against WA at stumps on day 1 at the WACA, due to an outstanding bowling effort from the veterans, Mike Kasprowicz and Adam Dale.

Kasper took 5/36 and Dale 3/52 to see the Warriors all out for 107! The Bulls were 6/118 at stumps.

The quite amazing Jo Angel - he just keeps producing - has 2/19 from 11 overs!
