a real possibility of a joke...

imagine if he didnt get it...and they chose someone ahead of hird as well

"experienced coach" that doesnt have any experience in the last 7 years. may as well bring in sheedy again.

I doubt this will happen.

He has spent this year back in the system at GWS after being out for what 5-6 years? I am sure there would be more credentialed candidates TBH.

I have no issue with him returning to coaching in whatever capacity. He has served his suspension.

However, I just think it would be unconceivable that Robert Walls & Jordan Lewis, unless overruled by the other 4 in that sub-committee, would choose Hird as the best candidate.

And if they do, ha good-luck

Essendon could have beaten us twice this season so Scott certainly has some talent to work with.

Most likely he'll make them a more hardened and consistent group, lead them finally to a finals win and sell hope.

However.

To lead them to a flag he'll have to defy the history of the VFL/AFL competition and become the first and only senior coach to win his maiden Premiership outside their first 9 seasons at the helm. As it is only one in Malthouse ever took until their 9th year.

I don't like his chances and that makes me very happy with this appointment.

May their Premiership drought long continue!

Sheedy voted for Hird to return, but was overruled by the other six board members
