Maybe he has some inside knowledge, or was just guessing that that might be a development at some stage? I don't see why the AFL would do it (given the medisub has been relatively successful), but given that tinkering with the rules is an annual event for them I suppose we shouldn't be surprised if it does come to pass.

Change to the bench / No more medical sub.
AFL are looking at a new configuration
Currently we have 4 on the bench plus an injury sub
The possibilities of change are
4 on the bench plus a general substitute
Or simply straight out 5 on the bench

Wouldn't be an AFL off-season without more unnecessary tinkering...
Personally, I don't have a problem with the current injury sub policy (which seems to have been brought in for a clear purpose and to be mostly working as planned?!), but would be fine with five on the bench if that's the direction they go in. Otherwise, I really did hope we'd seen the last of the old sub rule, so hopefully we're not going to see a return to that.
