Carlton have not overcome their fundamental flaw from last year.
They are unable to stand up when the tide flows against them.
At times, they raised their pressure and looked like they could have threatened the Crows, but when the Crows hit back, Carlton's pressure decreased. Crows were then able to score goals at crucial moments.
The constant erosion of hope which then ensued allowed the Crows to win easily in the end.
The loss of Pittonet in the ruck for Carlton exposed them with no contingency plans for this situation.
Carlton lost due to:
a) Adelaide's adrenalin boosting occasion in front of a massive home crowd combined with optimism from previous game's excellent form
b) Carlton's lack of resilience and no contingency plans for how to play if their main ruckman is off the ground.
