Poyrin defeated Djokovic in 4 sets

This is after Alcaraz was defeated in straight sets by Botic van de Zandschulp.

Thompson is on track to crack the top 30.
Huge for his career and getting seeded draws.

All of a sudden we've 3 players remaining and all in the top 30 and another 5 in the top100.

He's looking good this match against a quality opponent.

Australia's Jordan Thompson defeats another seeded player in #30 Italian M. Arnaldi 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 and moves him into the Round of 16.
82% first serve strike rate on his 1st serve from 63%.
That'll also push him into the top 30.

Now to get de Minaur through in the next match live now on Ch9.
If he wins that'll get him into the finals in every slam this year. First time and Aussie will do it since Lleyton Hewitt.

Alex de Minaur through to the round of 16
defeating Britain's Dan Evans, a tricky opponent who he's lost to 3 times previously.
6-3, 7-6, 6-0, 6-0.

That makes the next match an all Aussie affair - Thompson vs de Minaur.

Sheesh... Horror QF Sinner v. Medvedev that prolly should be the final!! And soft-as-**** SF Fritz vs Tiafoe.

Talk about lucky...

Gotta say, find it hard to be excited for Thompson, after his unhinged verbal spray at the Oz Open. Couldn't hack the spectator policy and called the AO the "wokest ever" tournament. Huh?? What's "woke" got to do with anything? Bloody baby, needs to grow up.

Alas, Alex de Minuars run has ended.
Broken in the second game of the 1st set and it was all downhill from there. While he broke Drapers serve in the 2nd and 3rd sets, physically he looked like he was labouring and went down in straight sets
6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Good tournament for the Aussies with 3 getting to the R16 and from that de Minaur pushed through to the QF.
That leaves us with 3 players in the top 30 and a total of 10 in the top 100. Great for Aust tennis and even better for our Davis Cup hopes against France later this month.
(trusting de Minaur recovers in time to play)

Some cracking semi-final match-ups to come, 3 have never won a US Open.

Another grand slam quarterfinal, another dream dashed by injury for Australian star Alex de Minaur, who has bowed out of the US Open at the hands of English talent Jack Draper.

Draper might be the heir apparent to Andy Murray for British tennis.

Sinner will be short-priced favourite to win the whole tournament.

Punters prolly got that one right.
