That seems like an awful lot to pay for the number 7 draft pick!!!!
The number 2 and 12 picks from the 2012 draft (plus a zone selection as steak knives) for pick 7.
I guess Port got Ollie Wines at pick 7 so its a pretty valuable chip. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

They got pick 19 for O'Rourke from Hawthorn as well. |

yeah, but they gave that to carlton in the Jaksch trade....
Net result of those 2 trades combined is Pick7!
One of Carlton or Hawthorn received an absolute gift here (i would say the likelihood of one of O'rourke on Janksch becoming a star is higher than the likelihood that pick 7 will.
The only way to salvage this is if GWS can convert picks 6 and 7 into 1 and then get Petracca and Wright. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Wow didn't know that. Jaksch & Wiley for a 12 place upgrade in the draft order? GWS musn't think too highly of them then. |

Think they're just starting to balance their list. Crammed a lot of very high picks into their squad and can't play them all so using the excess to get ongoing access to high draft picks is probably their best option.
Of the 3, Jaksch appears the most likely but all 3 could be great pick ups. Hate seeing Carlton do well at anything but think they have in this deal. |

They don't develop players as well as some other sides, so their top picks lose value quicker than most.
Melbourne are the same. Pretty sure I heard they're going to delist a couple of top 20 picks this year. If these guys stayed at GWS, they might be in the same position in a couple of years.
Proves that SOS was just being a dick when he wouldn't take Heater for Taylor Adams though. |
