Post subject: Malthouse InterviewReply with quote

Mick malthouse was interviewed on 3AFascist last week by David Hookes and Gerard Healy.
The interview lasted about 15 minutes and was interesting for a number of reasons.
(I summarise this interview for the benefit of interstate and overseas supporters.......by the way, Pie No Sauce, in Honkers are you still there????)
Mick was sounding very relaxed and laid back in the interview....in fact it was the most UN-Mick Malthouse sounding I've ever heard...if you follow that!
Anyway, a few pointers from the interview:
*Training has been good and he's keen for some of the young recruits to strutt their stuff in the New Year's Eve game....(it is NOT the Millenium game...the new millenium doesn't start until Jan 1 2001....as any student of maths should be able to easily explain)
*He's looking to 2 or 3 years down the track for the new boys to be hitting their straps
*He's jumping out of his skin with enthusiasm...his sons will still follow the Eagles and daughter will remain in WA.
Sons will school and play here
*Buckley is setting a great example to all players ....recruits and others.
*Best player in last decade??
Carey,Jakovich,Guy Mckenna.
Compared Buckley to Mckenna....both have sublime skills and refuse to accept defeat or rest on there laurels...constantly striving to improve.
*Is conscious of the pressure on him and the players but cautions supporters to be realistic....We play Carlton and that's last vs. 2nd...it would be great for confidence and supporters to win it though.
*All supporters must be members....it's too important to the club......we had a record number last year and he wants more this year.
*Improvement is a must...he expects it
No lazy uncommitted players will be tolerated...."We've cleaned out 13 players...and that's a fair number and now it's up to the those players remaining and new recruits to lift the bar"
*Fitness levels were significantly below in many cases, what he expected.
.....................................
Now every person reading this should already be signed up or be about to sign up...Michy included...NO EXCUSES
Even o'seas supporters should throw their hats in...this is a HUGE year for us....we need to give the young supporters their passion back and something to cheer babout.
We can all set a great example.
Let's all put in for 2000 and beyond.
A Merry Christmas to Magpie lovers everywhere...Floreat Pica!

Gday Neil,
Yeh I'm still here, absorbing all of the good vibes with renewed enthusiasm. I've been off travelling around the region a lot lately so it's great to come "home" and read all about the developments.
