Was his head sticking out the top of the boot? |

Still lots of AFL executives will get business class flights and 5 star hotels to "sell it". My guess is they will try to sell it in Bangkok, Singapore, Bali and the USA whilst forgetting less attractive spots like Myanmar, Laos, Pakistan and Cambodia. |
What makes the first three attractive? Large expat communities? |

^^^ Are those clubs set up by or affiliated with the actual AFL, or are they established and run completely independently? |

All clubs are affilaited with AFL asia and are allowed to use the AFL logo. But they recieve vitually nothing from the AFL. Most are run by expats but promote auskick etc and contribute to the local communities through donations, help with orphanages etc. They are the catalysts for the AFL International teams which have no expats in playing roles. The AFL pay for ground hire in Australia and give them free tickets (to games like North Melbourne vs GWS). The International teams fund their own airfares and food and board.
The AFL appointed some ambassadors years ago like retired players whose name rhymes with Sarich but he spent all his time in Bali and Jakarta and in the bars etc.
I am connected with the Borneo Bears and all the help from Australia has come through the likes of Gary Buckenara (lifelong friend of the President) and a life member at the Saints. Richmond do a photo shoot with the Indian Tigers but that is all. Dipper, Glenn Archer and others have helped. I once asked Brian Taylor to autograph a shirt for me to auction when I was in Bli but he refused saying he didn't want his name associated with non entities. The laugh was on him when I ponted out the other signatures were Kim Hughes. Glen Archer, Gary Buckenara, Dennis Lillee, Mark Ruccuittio , Brent MaCaffer, Heath Shaw ,Chris Tarrant and Merv Hughes. "Sorry Brian, Obviously a bigger name than test cricketers, premiership players and a Brownlow Medallist as I walked away with his mates calling him a big head and a dickhead.
Young Libba played a game with the Vietnam Swans and was in big trouble with Footisgray.
The teams play each other on occasions like ANZAC Day and some times play against visiting Australian warship crews and are supported by the embassies etc.
Pakistan for example has a league of about 10 teams. It was set up by the federal police and played in universities. Pakistan, South Africa, India and Sri Lanka have the advantage of cricket grounds. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

I’m kind of looking forward to this. The main form of the game is now way too congested and scrappy, and far less exciting to watch than it was in the 1980s. So this may be a way to test different configurations with a view to decongesting it over time. I would rather they had played a “normal” game with 15 players on a full size ground as a starting point, but I would not be at all surprised to see this format of the game rapidly becoming just as exciting as the 18 on ground + 4 on interchange format. It may even put the present scrum format to shame. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Not interested in the eagles or the crows Dave.I'm only interested in Collingwood and there are 3 players who should not be at the club ,who are playing , even this Mickey Mouse crap. The first name I saw on the list, right at the top was Blair and I have a feeling,a bad feeling ,I will be seeing his name in the senior 22 at some time this year as with Broomhead and Smith.Playing any of these players in our 22 ,in my book, puts us 1,2 or 3 men down, depending how many Buckley selects. |

^^^ Collingwood was regularly able to select about 14 or 15 solid or better AFL-standard players last season, so there are always going to be a few in the team with questions over them (more in AFLX, of course, since the Club tries to hold back most of the good players, so you won't see your Langdons and other certain 300-gamers playing in this rubbish). |
