On the way home on the train. I sat just behind the goals at ground level at the City end, I typically sit on the wing so had more of a ‘player’ perspective than usual. The guys played seriously good!
They seemed to be aware of what to do and what their teammates would do throughout the game. The defense was superb. Make no mistake the margin was very flattering for essendon. This was a much bigger win than the scoreboard displayed. We weren’t always first to the ball but the guys just ran all day and gave everything.
I was reading some of the Game thread at the breaks and it is just sad that some can’t seem to enjoy the moment. Where we’ll end up this season is anyone’s guess but the signs are all positive.
So many played well but I’ll single out Varcoe who was just tireless with bringing pressure to the ball carrier. And secondly to Stephenson, this kid is a gun, five games of AFL, just incredible.
Bring on the tiges, a win next game and we’ll play finals this year. _________________ Go Pies! |

We just need to remember this game was foreign to him not too long ago. |
When he marked and goaled people were chanting USA USA USA! Very cool! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Thinking older guys like Varcoe and Reid could be rested due to the short break for Adams/Faz and Moore but gee those guys were good today. Selection dilemma but a great problem to have. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

In defence. No doubt. Reid and Cox are doing their job up forward. One extra tall down back would make sure an opposing tall can't get hold of us. That's a risk at the moment with an undersized backline.
Adams is the interesting one for me. He's going to need to play a bit differently to fit into this side now. Seems strange to say of the Copeland runner up, but his lack of pace and running ability is a hindrance to the way we're playing at the moment. Brown played the Adams role today better than Taylor has this year. |
Adams will be a pretty easy in. Brown played the best game of his career, and still wasn't much better than average. Adams is a big upgrade.
Agreed on Moore. Everyone's talking about how bad Daniher was today, but most of his wounds were self inflicted in terms of terrible kicking and decision making. _________________ "We ain't gotta dream no more" |

A couple of things...
I was scathing on Murray. My bad.
I would include Stevo in players to be rested, for Moore.
Young kid, let's not break him. _________________ Go Pies!! |

Moore could play wing.
Also, we kicked 100+ AGAIN! What the hell is going on.
I know that if elliott was fit, we’d be turning those 50:50 and 60:40 opportunities into scores and goals. Still not enough class to just kick the goal, a lot of over hand balling and “you take the kick” play. Elliott (and Fasolo) kick those in their sleep. _________________ Est. 2002 |

I have been so pleasantly surprised by the eveness of our performance over the last few weeks. Every player is playing their role. No real standout, although i was pleased for Adam that he won the medal.
I thought the defence was huge today.... how many times did the Bombers have to take the slow passage out of due to our defence? Well done boys. |

Great effort. Makes that 3 wins in a row. Long time since we have done that.
Settled side no doubt has helped them gain in confidence.
Best ruckman and one of the best midfields.
Too early to dare to dream about what could be.
Stephenson at pick 6 was a gift. Kevin Sheehan rated him as the standout number 1 pick and it is certainly looking as though he is going to be something special.
Starting to enjoy my footy again. |

I's looking like a strong draft at the top. For us though, Stephenson was absolutely perfect. We badly needed his speed. He, along with Murray, are having a massive impact on how we play.
Looking forward to drafting Quaynor as well Maybe too soon, but think he'll be a good addition to our defensive mix. _________________ Well done boys! |

Agree totally, especially re Varcoe, so good to see him flat out again.
The tigers may be a bridge too far, but hey, play like that, anything is possible, I’ll doubt we will be disgraced.
Oh and the train? Couldn’t get parking this week, had to train it, I’m gunna book parking for the rest of the year tonight, bloody public transport! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

was one of those games that if either team kicked straight results may of been significant. good goal kicking is contagious and both clubs would of benefited if they could. but at every minute of the game we were better, no doubt. they looked bottom eight we looked top 2 to 4. selection drama will determine our win loss ratio. _________________ no second chances |

I am no fan of Chris Judd (after all, he robbed Swanny of a Brownlow!!), but he bangs on about cohesion ie the familiarity and edge that a team can get from playing with each other continually. I really think it's important. Apparently, the stats show that we were lowest in cohesion last year. I really hope that we don't break up this team that's playing so well together with wholesale changes. |
