That was more like a 15 goal thumping.
I was almost wishing Dunn got the ANZAC for his fantastic demolition job he did on Daniher, a player about 15 cms taller. His reading of the ball was superb. |

If Adams is fit, he’s a certainty to play.
If nothing else, he frees up the likes of Treloar, Sidey, Pendlebury, DeGoey and co to spend more time resting in the forward line.
Thomas has been an important cog in our improvement. His ability to start in the square gives us more options to rest quality players up forward.
Varcoe has found touch and Aish is really finding his feet.
All aboard !! |

I very much enjoyed that, first game I've seen live this year.
Our defensive set up clearly bothered essendon, who struggled to clear the ball when play stopped.
The pressure Essendon exerted on our forwards was telling, it will be interesting to see how we go against Richmond because while our defence held up beautifully, we frigged around with it too much when it was contested in our forward line. I reckon the bombers beat us in that area, but that was one of few.
Overall, I really like how the team is taking shape. I'm sure we'll have some downs yet, but there's a lot of positives in the way we're playing. It's a style that wins in September and we've got the next 4 months to perfect it.
On the big Cox, the boy can play. He knows his limitations but he just has a crack and he's smart. I saw a comment online on the train home that people assume Cox is a liability when the ball hit's the ground, but he's not. He had 19 pressure acts for the game and just competes. When he has a chance to get a run and jump at the ball as he showed in the last quarter, he can't be legally spoiled. If we dump it on top of his head and he has to stand there and cop the attention, he doesn't try to mark but instead palms the ball to our advantage.
I could run down a list of players but I won't, just one comment on Stephenson. This kid is rolled gold good. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

That was damn impressive footy. We are playing the right brand of footy now, total football, no one way running, no sagging back in defense, this was a continuation of the last two weeks and shall I dare say it? We are on a roll!!! And I am pumped! So, so good to finally start seeing some solid football from the group. I think this is something we can continue and build upon, it does not have any obvious weaknesses it is very sound, our structure never really gets pulled apart too hard for too long. The team is looking very well drilled and this excites me. Watching the Storm pummel the Warriors as I type...what a day out!
Thought Sidey was BOG as he really was instrumental in the first half. Treloar was great, so too Pendles, Grundy and De Goey, a real even spread and that is what we want. To be fair, the Dons were down two players for a half of footy and that was just too bloody tough for them to get over. So, look..they were trying to hold on and just didn't have the run. But, I think we would have beaten them anyway but maybe by 2 or 3 goals instead of 8.
A great performance, one to be super proud of. Bring on the Le Tigres in 4 days. A big ask but I think we will give it a big crack. _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.

Thanks for this positive post MM.
I understand that few want to get carried away on the back of a couple of straight wins, but geez, I'm disappointed about the lack of support for the team on this board.
We're all supposedly Collingwood supporters, but how many have acknowledged the great win today?????? It was a wonderful team performance, but so few are willing to tip their hats to the boys.
None of us have any control of the future... yes, we may fall in a heap next game around, but how the hell can you expect the players to approach it with confidence if their supporters don't appreciate the efforts they made today to get a good win.
It's okay everyone... you have permission from the footy gods to enjoy a really memorable win. No need to make wild predictions on the back of it, but hey, enjoy it!!!!!! |

Granted it wasn't the full nine months - but the wait was certainly worth it!
Fascinating game against Richmond now - a really good test to see where we are at. |

If we can muster a victory against the reigning Premiers with only a 3 day break, we should genuinely be considered flag favourites. Talk about going from boiled lollies to scorched almonds in the space of 3 weeks. Boy oh boy we are looking good.
And I find it pretty disappointing that none of my fellow Nicksters seem willing to congratulate Bucks on the fine job he's doing, preparing our team of youngsters for battle each week. Well done Bucks. You stood firm when others went weak at the knees. Go Pies! |
