Bloody hell. That was heart in your mouth stuff there. Ground out the win in the end in tough conditions and didn't cave in when it looked like we might throw it away. A lot of sloppy disposal but we were the better side. That last goal was a superb way to finish it off and we did it with our best player on the pine. This was always going to be a danger game but we stood up to the challenge. We had everything and everyone going against us. Those big pack marks by Cox in the last few minutes were crucial. Wish he'd do that more often.
Thought Varcoe was good, Treloar and Sidebottom too. Howe down back stood tall. Appleby OK, Scharenburg played alright. De Goey was sensational, WHE had his moments. Murray for all his determination needs to use the ball better. Adams and Moore were quiet but first games back. Blair and Mayne do not make us a better side.
In the end we did what we needed to do and got the job done. Not the prettiest game but 4 points is 4 points and you take them anyway you can. We really need to figure out a role for Moore. Is he forward, back or wing? |

I agree.
Much rather that wake up call than get absolutely destroyed by the cats next week.
I’d rather see a Brown than Mayne, he tries, but yeah, and yeah I know that Blair’s determination is keeping him in the game, but gees guys, that smother in the dying minutes could have meant so much!
Stephenson, what a star, DeGoey, all is forgiven -but don’t do it again! Treloar, mr class, WHE not as good as the last couple, but gees he’s smooth. Thank god for Howe and the back line. They were like tanks, and that’s why cox struggled at times. We looked tired.
My big worry and I said it a couple of weeks back, is if we are pressured out of hand passing, our kicks cost us big time. Certainly under pressure like that the skills dropped massively. Again though ,we looked apathetic at times. And losing Pendles cost us big time. Was Moore match fit to play?
Hey a win is a win.
Bit shocked in the game day thread, the rubbish chucked at our players, (only a couple of posters thankfully) useless arseholes, etc etc, that’s not necessary. Pretty disgusting really.
After the last 5 years, cmon guys, let’s stick together. Certainly there appeared to be selection issues, but gees there are some real shining lights in this team now. Would have been horribly disappointing to lose, but at least it’s no longer meh! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

3 games in 11 days and we still beat an opposition on their home ground who were desperate for their first win.
An inspiring win, especially considering we were without Pendles for much of the second half.
A superb effort. |
Spot on!
Those sorts of wins are character building and great for self belief.
A superb effort, predictably underrated by the doomsdayers. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count.

Before the first bounce, I considered this a real danger game, and one we might lose, given our recent heavy workload and the instability of having 4 inclusions, a couple of which haven't played for several weeks.
All in all, I'm rapt we won this game. Losing our captain in the 3rd quarter and Grundy struggling with shin soreness, we could easily have lost this game.
I thought Cox was terrific in the last quarter. As for De Goey, we need to see much more of this from such a prodigious talent.
Next week, we should see Maynard, Langdon and maybe Wells return, replacing Mayne, Blair and Crocker. |

Their goal kicking kept them in it. And a favourable scumpire. But in the end you learn to win. just some old fashioned footy smarts by Varcoe and Blair at the end and if can learn not to be the Wayne carey dickhead and be the next say Glenn Archer we have a player in JDG. I would like him have a game on Fyffe just to learn. Even say Dangerfield next week. I know he is a weapon but the long term it will pay off. I love his confidence. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

A relief to get away with a win there.
A lot of passengers, it's like the team just kind of expected to win but only a few actually put their heads down and did the work. Goes to show there's still a significant gap between us and the top few teams. |

I haven't got Foxtel, thought I'd download the game later confident in victory and decided to use the time instead to give my unit a much needed clean.
Fired up the computer, went to the AFL site and FMD we're only 8pts ahead half way through the last quarter.
Critical that we hung on for the win but boy oh boy some spots in the team must surely have opened up on the back of that performance.
I look forward to watching it. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Three games in 11 days ✔️
Long injury list ✔️
Lost the skipper through the game ✔️
Travelled interstate ✔️
FOUR POINTS ✔️✔️
If you can’t you get any joy from this win, then you are probably just one of those people who just aren’t happy unless you’re ....... unhappy. |
Superb post IMHO. Anyone who underestimates the worth of this win just doesn't get it. |

And it planned out EXACTLY how we predicted.
Bank the four points and forget about this one.
I guess we were accurate. |
Seriously, Daicos a 'hardened body'??? If you've watched any VFL, you'd know that's hardly the case. He will be a good player, but is not ready yet.
Fasolo didn't exactly set the world on fire in the VFL either, until yesterday. Probably will be looking at selection next week, but his form until now hardly warranted a call up. |

This. Also Phillips was and has been excellent all year. 28 disposals, 86% efficiency, 8 contested, 4 clearances plus a goal. He's becoming an extremely good contributor for such a young player. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. Plus I knew it would be close.
I went to my first ANZAC Day this year. Sat behind the Essendon Cheersquad. They’re a better type of person 😀

Y ‘hardened’ body I meant match fit. Match hard. Should’ve made that more clear. _________________ Est. 2002 |
