The motor in those things is bulletproof, but it seems the trannie has an inherent flaw that can be fixed with an after market modification.
I'd be either getting a trans from a latter model or dropping in a manual box. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Nah not worth the mods. There is more than a motor can go wrong.
Seriously first question would be what’s the car worth?
If you can get a second hand from a wreckers and installation for $1000 do that and sell it! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

With 120,000 on the clock it’s worth 6-8k
Take off at least 1000 for the extra 40,000
So spending 4000 on a reco trans, I’d be thinking twice about that. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Redbook has the range $5800 to $7400.

I suppose $4k is OK if you think you will get another 6+ years out of it.
Another option would be to just get the tranny serviced so it works for a few weeks (if that's an option), trade it in for $4k and use the other $4 to get a replacement. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Yeah nah, that's not going to be a $4000 trade in, more like $1000.
Always amuses us when customers respond to our actual trade in price with "redbook says $8000-$9500", ok, so sell it to redbook
I'm sure their prices would be much different if they actually had to buy the cars for the rubbish prices they show. |

That’s why you don’t trade cars in - dealerships are in it to make a fast buck.
Fair enough too, the shitboxes just get dumped at auctions for what ever they can get. The ones they sell they have to be sure they don’t lose on the limited warranty.
So trade it in as is for $1000 or fix for $1000 and sell immediately for what you can get.
The only car we have ever bought from a dealer was brand new and a business tax deduction.
Check out the ex company cars at auction or the government ones. Full history, I’ve even got the name out of the book and rung the previous owner before!
Juniors car the previous owner was paid out $12000, we had to get a VIV fix a sill but it was in the road for 7 and insured for 11 2 years ago. The owner was shattered she loved the car and sent me extra keys, i sent her flowers and a voucher! It’s a 2011 turbo diesel focus hatch and it’s a gem! Bloody beautiful little car.
Red book or the cars site we use is just a reference point when we buy purely to make a profit. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I think I'm getting old.
Spent a few hours today clambering on roofs (the house and the shed) cleaning gutters. It's a lot higher and more slippery than it used to be, or I'm just getting old. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Grow a pair. My Dad still does this and he's 95. In fact, he's so good at it, he does mine, too (and it's three-storeys high). He does use the abseiling equipment, which may make it easier. |

How much does he charge?
I used to see the ground down there and know if I fell, at worst I might get a sprained ankle and some bruising. Now I know I'd be street pizza. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
