Here is a quote from Keysar Trad, the spokesman from Sydney for the spiritual leader of Australia's 300/000 strong Muslim population. He is referring to John Howard's criticism of the leader (who is an Australian citizen) when he (apparently) stated a jihad should be waged against Israel...

"If some of these people take the extreme measure of blowing themselves up as part of the resistance because they don't have any other means of resisting the occupation, then we cannot condemn them and in some cases these people are performing an act of bravery in defence of their country."

This is from an Australian citizen.

What gobbledigook. Look at the grey language he uses... "if some people... 'they don't have any other means...' '..and in some cases... an act of bravery'...

'An act of bravery? Ok Mr Trad... **** off and join them. I'll be glad to call you brave as long as you were out of this peace loving country.

From a little closer to the action.

Living in Sydney, I am more familiar with the "form" of some figures involved.

Keyar Trad is a so-called leader or the Lebanese Muslim community and at times acts as a spokesman-interpreter for Sheikh Hilaly, the highest ranking Islamic cleric in Australia and mufti (head priest) of the Lakemba Mosque, Sydney's largest mosque.

Both have mixed form and have came out in the past with inflammatory comments and yet have also worked positively for co-operation with authorities amongst some touchier areas of Sydney's Islamic communities.

The Middle East/Palestinian situation is a minefield with no simple solutions, period. As regards Australia, extrem and inflammatory comments from either side is reprehensible and counter-productive, whether they be supportive of suicide bombing or the siege mentality of the Jewish leaders, where it is the case that to voice any criticism of Israel is tantamount to anti-Semitism.

We do have laws that cover this type of vitriol.
They are called "Freedom Of Speech"
