If we play like we have for the last 2-3 months, we won’t get close. Need to rediscover the form from back in April when we last played the tigers and last looked like top 4 material |
Unfortunately we had Beams collecting 30+ touches, Moore in the team, Elliott up forward, Langdon in defence, Thomas actually touching the pill...
The current squad is close to the worst on paper we have fielded for the past 3 seasons. It ain’t winning shit. |

Haven't posted in ages. Have been a member of Nick's for a long time. For what it's worth I reckon we'll still be a force to be reckoned with during September. |

Already feeling nervous about this match. We simply have to win.
It's going to be a defining match of our season with Richmond breathing down our necks to get into the top 4. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

The Tiggers will be missing only one best-22 players through injury (yep, the diver, who has ramped up his training). |

I would like to see the following happen, if players are available:
Out: Crocker, Appleby, Mayne (injured - had ice on his knee at the end of GWS game), Varcoe, Brown
In: Elliott, Scharenberg. Greenwood, Wills, Noble
Wills has been a tackling machine in the VFL, according to observers. Bring him in to run through the middle and play up forward and tell him to tackle everything in sight. Crisp to rotate through the midfield as well. Sier told to go hard in the middle and get clearances for us, rotate with Wills
If we play two big midfielders, we can change up the midfield with Crisp, Maynard, and hopefully JDG can spend most of his time up forward.
Noble in to assist in taking care of Richmond's small forwards with IQ.
Greenwood in because he is a brilliant defender this year, and as hard as steel.
Varcoe and Brown out because the current combinatoin is not working and I want to see us try new midfield combinations to try to get more drive. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Well, that describes his Sydney game. What did you think of his performance then? |

M. Gleason:
"Arguably Cox has been hurt as much as anyone by Stephenson’s absence, a suspension that becomes more punishing to the side by the week. Without the threats such as Richmond and the Giants possess, Collingwood’s attack becomes predictable, and predictability is easier to defend for opposition defences have the luxury to roll off their opponents and double team De Goey in the air and to cut Cox’s run at the ball or climb over him."
And this:
"Then there is the more unsettling arrangement when Dusty Martin goes to the goal square and pushes the other two away from goal. Bizarrely, this renders Riewoldt the third most immediate concern in the forward line. A concern in itself."
How the )(%*))^$# did they fit Lynch in the salary cap again? |

yes, his game against Sydney was not great, but perhaps he has established some better form now through the VFL. His role in our forward line when he is forward might just be to tackle and apply pressure rather than to try to be a marking target, which did not go well against Sydney. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

I agree with this. We have lost our best ground ball forward by far. When Cox hit the ball to the ground, it was so much more dangerous with the threat of Stephenson looming.
I am wondering if either IQ or Noble can play forward? If either has experience, their speed is exactly what is necessary to complement Cox. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

By not recruiting Beams, Wells and Mayne? |

If I can find any positive out of our loss to the GWS it's that our current position on the ladder of 4th is the spot we should be aiming for come seasons end.
Of course this is all predicated on the notion Geelong wont fall off the cliff and will remain 1st.
Remaining in the top 4 will be the hard part and this weeks game against Richmond will likely play a big part in our ability to do that.
The game against the Eagles showed we are still capable of beating the Tigers but producing that same level of desire for the contest across 4 quarters is the question mark over this team. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Seriously, Goldsack must come in to bolster our defence and be our swing man if he's needed up forward. We need an injection of grunt into our side and he has that in spades. Hopefully Greenwood is available too. That would be 2 hard nuts coming into our side.
Out: Crocker, Appleby, Brown
In: Goldsack, Greenwood, Elliott
I'd like to see Cox spend more time in the ruck, to get him involved in the game, allowing Grundy to spend time (about 30%) at full forward.
Sier needs to be put on notice, that Grissly bear will maintain his spot in our team, but Panda bear will be dropped to the VFL.

Why would you drop Brown and keep Varcoe? |

Last time we bent them over, they offered up a game plan that fell right into our hands. They guarded space and sat off us and we proceeded to rewrite the record books for marks or uncontested possession or whatever.
They will be a very different outfit this time around, so forget the recent history stuff.
The good news is they will only play with two talls in their forward line, so the match ups will suit us more than GWS.
Im not confident but I do think we will then go on to string a few wins together after this one. |
