The news hit me like a kick in the guts. The very first money I ever spent on recorded music went to that wonderful debut album "living in the '70's". Since then I have had at least 3 vinyl versions and 2 CD versions of the same LP.
Shirl and the 'Hooks enriched my life as much as Collingwood Football Club does.
He will be sadly missed, but his music lives on.
Not a bad bloke for a Hawthorn supporter.

Living in the 70's was my first Album too. Just goes tgo show you how fickle life can be. A bit like Richmond supporters really!

I was too conservative for my own good, Livin in the 70's is my favorite. But I did raise a few eyebrows amongst the nuns one day. when we had a "select a DJ" comp at school.
Somehow I had acquired LIT70's on vinyl and in one of my rare wild moments played SMUT loudly to the enthusiastic reception of the assembled Form 3 'rebels'.
Still have a happy mental image of Sr Kathleen innocently 'grooving' along to the song. Forgive her father, she knew not what she was doing.
God, I'm old!!
Shirl gave great concert! RIP

I wasn't old enough to hear the Skyhooks when they were around, but have seen Shirley on his various tv shows and have always liked the guy. Very sad indeed, a shock to the system.
Rest In Peace Shirl.

This is coming from me, a 17 yr old who unfortunately missed a great music decade of the 70's but grew up really on all that music in the early 80's. Shirl was and always will be a legend and person who I enjoyed watching on those fantastic old music vids on on Our House.
You will always be sadly missed, Saturday night tele wont be the same without u.
RIP forever Shirley

I grew up hooked on Sherbet & Skyhooks and have since then thoroughly enjoyed watching Shirl on our TV screens. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends. You will be dearly missed Shirl.

LIT70's was the first Album my sister bought when she started work back in the 70's. I used to play it for my school friends everynight.
I always hoped Skyhooks would get back together one last time,
now that will never be.
It was a sad loss for everyone but his music and our memories of him will live on.
