I'd think Roughhead is best match for the Dawk to counter his strength and power. If slippery, DArcy may not be needed back so could be used forward, or could chop out in the ruck with say H-E swung into defense to cover during those relieif ruck minutes.
I guess DArcy woudl be good match for RAta, which could become a weakness for Geelong if DArcy can run off him. Tath's if RAta doesn't play game of his life to dominate the underdone Moore offspring. But then Howe could be swung onto him. |

C'mon pies, get this done and move one giant step closer to overcoming the trauma of last year. Lose and wet toast await- I'm sure that in itself is an opportunity for the above, but let's not put ourselves in that position and win tonight. Happy game day!
The time has come.
It's tonight when the players can harness the heartbreak of last year and use it to their advantage. After a long season, I'm still not over it and I'm certain neither are the players. Every time the players see the replay of that Sheed goal, it should spark something inside them. They couldn't do anything about it after the siren went, but they can now. They can tonight!
We made it this far, now the season starts again.
Lets go out there, play for each other, play for the jumper.
GO PIES!!!!!!

The team looks good.
Last year's experiences will benefit them.
Players have at least held their ground with most having improved years.
Big difference at either end of the ground.
Moore and Roughead down back.
Elliott up forward.
We want a fast hit up leads into the forward line type game. Losing Cox makes us more able to play that way and avoid their backs taking intercept marks.
Hoping we can fast track Mr Stingy Scott.
Let's wind the clock back to prelim 10 and put it to bed before half time. _________________ woodsmen rule |

For those going to the game be prepared for delays getting there...
Protesters to 'swarm' Melbourne's CBD ahead of blockbuster MCG final
by Charlotte Grieve, The Age, September 6, 2019 — 8.12am
Climate activists are planning to "swarm" Melbourne's CBD and block busy streets on Friday as tens of thousands of football fans descend on the city for a blockbuster final at the MCG.
Police and public transport operators are bracing for evening peak-hour disruptions, with protesters – mostly students aged 20 to 25 – set to meet at the State Library of Victoria on Swanston Street about 5pm where they will then separate and meet at a series of undisclosed locations to block foot and road traffic.
A spokesman for Yarra Trams said it was difficult to warn commuters about delays as the protesters had provided them with little information.
"We'll just have to wait ... to see how it unfolds. We don't have a whole lot of information as to what's going to take place," he said.
The protesters have drawn inspiration from pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong, who use movement to avoid arrest and blockades to shut off streets.

Every Geelong supporter I know lives in Melbourne -- and most of them live in the east, Blackburn, Ringwood, Gippsland, etc! They're happy they don't have to travel to Geelong! "MCG is so much easier," they told me.
There's a footy show on Channel 31, with a bunch of disturbingly clean-cut kids hosting the panel. All of them were "it's not fair, Geelong should have a home final, waaah..." Except for one guy who shot them down in flames (last time Geelong hosted Freo, and lost! And they weren't whinging when they were winning at the MCG, it'd be unfair to 40,000 fans who'd miss out). Good on him. |

Hopefully, the Geeshort people including their dickie coach have been negatively impacted by this no-home-final-not-fair mentality.
Yes, pussy cats, it is NOT fair, because Heaven forbit you guys to win.
Go Pies!!! |

I'm quietly confident. Pendles and Treloar are absolutely cherry ripe this year compared to last. Adams and Sidey are going to have huge games. We'll either burst from the blocks in the first quarter, or it'll be an arm wrestle until the third when JDG and Stephenson get their mojo back.
Expect the umps to side with Geelong a lot tonight, as compensation for their "home final" whinging. Selwood will get heaps of ducking frees, and expect the umps to pay awful 50/50 holds in the ruck contest against Grundy. |
