I hope you were the instigator rather than the receiver.
Port Douglas and the surrounds is a beautiful part of the world. I hope you get a chance to go back and check it out properly, by car and foot. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Cheers. Wasnt hell at all. On one of the uphills early on I found myself going up in slow rhythm following a husband & wife couple. When u find a good cadence / rhythm / rpm and youre doing it with others ( I am talking about cycling) then its quite remarkable how much disrance u cover and the relative ease in which its done (compared) to cycling on ur own.
Great ride. That downhill. Wow. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

We stayed at the Meridian close to town. Congratulations to Mrs WPT : no issue on the chairlift (skyrail) & the train down was great. Kuranda was a bit tourist tacky & way overpriced but it was gr8 to do.
We hired a car and on the Monday drove to the Tablelands (in part covering the bike route. All day job but well worth it. We stopped at Yungaburra outside of Atherton and were privileged to see Platypuses (Platypi) incredibly close up; remarkable.
Went on a Daintree river cruise this am, now resting up by the swimming pool given its our last day and its 29 in Port Douglas.
Next ride is Around the Bay in a day (anti-clockwise) 210 kms on ? 5 October.

210 km "Around the Bay in a Day" beckons. I'm off to bed & will be up at 4am have to be at StKilda by 4.40 & then proceed to Albert Park for the start at about 5.30 am. (so 210 ride & the extras of riding to Albert Park & back when I finish)
First we go to the West Gate Bridge, through Geelong to Queenscliff. Lunch and a ferry to Sorrento, then back to Albert Park.
Not as prepared as I was last year but here goes! _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Well I friggin did it. Im chuffed and Ive punished myself for The GF result. Went to bed at 12 midnight daylight savings time, didnt get to sleep till 1 am & I was up at 3.50 am,rode from Sth Caulfield to Albert Park to start the ride. Officially started at 5.40 am. I got back at 5.20 pm.
I rode 231 kms and that included to & from the event. Great weather for riding absolutely no headwind, at times a tail wind.
Im sore & tired all over. We were given a free drink card for the finish & I had a plastic cup of Carlton draft. Made me even more tired.
Distance: 231km
Top speed: 68.86 (going down olivers hill in Frankston)
Calorie loss: 16880
Ascent: 1625 metres
Descent: 1621 metres
Average speed: 24 km/hr
Average Cadence: 80 km/hr
Pain: easier to list what doesn't hurt
A great days riding but Im utterly f*cked. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

In preparation for “Around the Bay in a Day” on 6 October 2019. Yesterday with 5 others took a train to Frankston then rode to Dromana along Nepean Highway had a coffee (and a flat tyre) then rode back home 100 km’s
No Queensland ride this year 😢 as they’re not doing it anymore so decided to do the Great Victorian Bike ride instead: Robe South Australia to Torquay (10 days with a rest day in Port Fairy)

I like riding hills but the sharp steep hills remain a killer for me; I do ‘em but I’m very slow. I prefer the continuous grind where you get into a good rhythm and learn to smash it.
Need to save up for an indoor trainer which costs $1,200. https://au.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-trainers/kickr-core-indoor-smart-trainer _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
