Post subject: Fast food Co's, could they be sued like tobacco Co's were? | |

With the alarming rise of young people being diagnosed with bowel/colorectal cancer, could we one day see fast food companies being sued in the same manner tobacco companies were?

Nobody knows for sure (yeah rite ) why colorectal cancer numbers are rising in young people. Sedentary lifestyle, overweight and obesity, smoking, heavy alcohol use, low-fiber, high-fat diets or diets high in processed meats, and other environmental factors have all been associated with the disease.

Based on current trends, people born in 1990 onwards have double the risk of colon cancer, and quadruple the risk of rectal cancer, compared to people born in 1950.

The average household expenditure in Australia on fast food is about $40 a week, and people buy more than 2.2 billion fast-food meals a year. There is over 1000 McDonalds stores, 800 KFC's, 500 HJ's and countless other junk food stores.
When I was a kid, there was a KFC about 4 suburbs away, we might have eaten there 3 or 4 times a year. Now, the first thing my grandkids say when they jump in the car is "can we get Maccas?"
The bottom line is the rate of younger people being diagnosed with these cancers has doubled since 1995. In the US, they have lowered the screening age from 50 to 45 and , no Stui, the little poo tester kit you get in the mail every 2 years, is not a reliable screening mechanism, sure, it might pick up something. A colonoscopy is the only reliable check.
It really is a scary situation. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Scary indeed.
That said I could name children who don’t any eat vegetables on a regular basis, home cooked or not. It’s not just a fast food generation, it’s families too busy or lazy to cook properly.
And low fat products are also to blame, making you think they ar3 a healthier choice, so people eat more of them.
Too many tv choices, too many iPad baby sitters, and unsafe play areas.
Political correctness gone mad where plus sized models are so prominent, it’s not healthy to be plus sized, and yes some people can’t help it, I know I know. It gets harder for everyone as we get older!
Along with kids mentality if it’s ok to steal a car at 14, where are the parents?
Turning into the US with Sue Sue Sue, does nothing. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |
