Not sure that makes sense as how did we fit in Mitchell, McStay, Hill etc if we still had to pay Brundy a significant chunk of change. |

Mitchell is being paid by Hawthorn, Hill would have been cheap and McStay is just a normal contract.
We also had new deals for some senior players who are probably on less now they’re winding down.
Plus we’ve done a lot of upgrading deals for next year and beyond already so makes perfect sense. |

Grundy was owed by us for the remaining 5yrs of his deal a little over $4m
He had a big chunk front ended on his contract
The club agreed to pay $150k a year for 5 years ($750k total)
This was all paid this season to give Melbourne time to make adjustments to there cap going forward to fit Grundy in (we had already earmarked his money to be paid under the cap as if he was staying originally)
So depending on how much Melbourne paid his this year he will be owed a maximum of a little over $3.2m which would be Melbourne responsibility as I understand it
Now depending on the terms of the deal between us and Melbourne on what would happen if this scenario played out it may change things but I believe we won’t be on the hook for any more payments to Grundy going forward
We have obviously spent some or all of this cash on upgrades and new players already
As for Melbourne it’s likely they will pay have to pay around $250/$300k a season to get him off there books if they want to get anywhere near a 2nd round pick back
My understanding is Sydney has said if there on the hook for anymore than $500k a season there will no draft pick higher than 4th round pick being handed over to take on his salary
It depends which way Melbourne wants to go have higher draft pick or cap space |
if thats true, then dont we owe zero anyway?
and if the contract was with melbourne, they owe us! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Grundy signs a mega deal, and a few years later he's still got the cash as he heads to his 3rd club. It's interesting how he goes at the Swans. They do have a habit of getting something extra out of players. |

Whoever made the call to dump Grundy deserves life membership of the club, the decision that won the 2023 premiership. |

Grundy gets to a third club in three seasons; and now wondering how he can demoralise a 5th AFL coach in 4 seasons... he will find a way...
And despite what was said above - HOW THE ACTUALFUCK are we still stuck with @$250K per annum paying this nomadic spud, after he and those twat brains at Melbourne ballzed this all up?!
That was the figure floated by Jon Ralph-Mouth on Trading Day on fuxtel504 this arvo... _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Guess Collingwood fans will never get another chance to boo Grundy or see him play again, unless the make the annual pilgrimage north. |

Gleeson & Ryan (IIRC) wrote that Collingwood's agreement is a separate one with Grundy.
Media reported that Wright confirmed this on Monday. (Maybe there's even video of Wright saying it.) He said Collingwood would honour that agreement (i.e. he refuted the reports Collingwood is asking the AFL whether we're still on the hook).
So we are definitely still on the hook for Grundy's salary.

I wouldn't totally rule out a 4th club. (Prolly not in 2025 though.) Very early this year, I correctly predicted there was a good chance he'd end up at Port or another club. (But 2024 was a bit sooner than I predicted. All happened very quickly. I thought there might be a "sugar hit" of a new club, as Lloyd likes to say.)
