Pickett stacked his car for the second time in 5 years, while driving drunk. The cops charged him the drink driving. Apparently he did something lke $40,000 damage to his new car, so it is pretty much a write-off.

Pickett charged with drink-driving
October 15, 2004

Quote:
Less than three weeks after he won the Norm Smith Medal for helping demolish the Brisbane Lions, the Port Adelaide hard man destroyed his high-powered Falcon when it hit a power pole at high speed yesterday.

One of three other occupants of the car was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Pickett, 27, also faces charges of driving while disqualified and driving without due care. He is believed to have blown .12 - more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit - in the 7.50am smash.

Pickett was driving the black XR8 Falcon through a roundabout in Port Augusta, north of Adelaide, when he lost control of the car.

Port want to sue North saying they taught the player the bad habits and is continued the cycle of damaged goods.

I doubt AFL players with ever learn, what's it going to take? Another dead person to wake them up? Should ban him from driving for good, it's obvious he won't learn.

Put him in a cell for a few years.

An unlicensed driver who gets smashed and gets behind the wheel of a car has no place in civilised society.

Now that's what you call a premiership hangover.

I wonder how many other Port players are still off with the pixies.

I guess Choppy can thank his lucky stars that he didn't suffer the same fate as another great premiership hero we all know and love.

Getting done regularly for drink driving usually indicates a pretty serious drinking problem, and as much as I admire Byron Pickett as a footballer, I reckon he needs to sort himself out. Or he could well finish up a very tragic figure. Either dead from his own stupidity. Or sitting around the early opener telling anyone who'll buy him a drink how he used to be a good footballer once.

Not to mention the tragedy of anyone else who might suffer as a result of his actions.
