Yeah, Greg, I was wondering about that.

So, you're saying the GG always reads a pro-government speech at the opening of parliament.

I wasn't sure about that. Whether it was some sort of tradition or something.

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him spout all this pro-Howard propaganda. I thought the GG was supposed to at least appear to be above party politics.

That's a very quaint tradition.

Surely it would make a lot more sense for the PM to read his own propaganda.

The queen copped the same flack here for her speech the other week. I would reckon it's always been done that way, but I guess it has to be a little more obvious these days. The speech is to outline the legislative program for the year, but I suppose it's impossible for a poli not to dig the boots in given half a chance.

The pro blair press don't mention it, the anti blair press do a big song and dance about it. when the other lot get in, the roles are reversed!
