Man admits dog torture
By Rosemary Desmond
07apr05

A QUEENSLAND man has pleaded guilty to torturing a dog by putting a rubber band around its penis and a high-pressure hose in its rectum.

The fox terrier-cross, which was less than one year old at the time of its abuse, was also placed in a sack and dropped to the ground from ceiling height, RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said.

The dog had to have its tail and right hind leg amputated following the prolonged torture over a three-month period in 2003.

Darren Ronald Veach, 37, of Rockhampton, will face a maximum two years in prison or a $75,000 fine when he is sentenced in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The RSPCA brought six charges of animal cruelty against him.

Veach pleaded guilty in a court appearance last month and was remanded in custody.

"It was a particularly bad case," Mr Beatty said.

The dog has been given the name of Georgie and has gone to live with a family in the Rockhampton area.

In another case of animal cruelty in Rockhampton, three men in their 50s have been summonsed to appear in the magistrates court on June 28, each charged with one count of animal cruelty to five cats, four of which died.

The other cat was in such pain it had to be put down.

The five cats were found in January, garrotted and dumped in a sack outside the St Vincent de Paul charity shop in Rockhampton.

The RSPCA said two of the dead cats had had their throats cut from ear to ear, one had its tail crushed, and all had rope marks consistent with strangulation.

What a society we live in.

Time for the courts to get fair dinkum and award some jail time for these "brave" people.

Disgusting.

Another one of these sickos that get off on making animals suffer. Some moron judge will probably sentence him to community service with the RSPCA like they did with those scumbags in the army.

The guy who did the dog torture got 3 months jail!
Plus he is not allowed to own animals for 3 years.

A small step, but one that the judicial system must take notice of in future cases.
