HAL is indeed from 2001 A Space Odyssey, Dave.

He is a 9000 series computer that became operational at H.A.L plant in Urbania Illinois on the 12th January 1992. The 9000 series computer is the most reliable computer ever made .No 9000 series computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information.

Will you open the pod bay doors HAL ?

well this is obviously not the same HAL then as this one distorts information quite a bit and is also unreliable. Maybe he's related though? Wink
