I heard tonight that Sav will play his last game for the season against Hawthorn because he is going to have an operation on his knee that has been troubling him.

Michael is spot on the money:

Apparently it's the same complaint that saw him miss games earlier this year. It's related to the ongoing Tendinitis he's had for 4-5 years and the knock he copped in the Carlton pre-season match.

He could play to the end of the season, but he'd always be a bit proppy. This way he'll miss the rest of the 99 season, but be ready for almost a whole pre-season to regain fitness for 2000.

Sounds to me like someone down at Lulie St has finally given some very sound medical advice that football people have actually listened to.
