Yep another choke whilst leading at half time.
His first tea shot went on the road just like a Travis Cloke set shot from 50.

Still a fantastic effort by Norman after such a long break from the majors...I really feel that he tried too hard to be the old Greg Norman, going for the big shots and his club selection was woeful...the ability is still there for Greg to be a major presence in world golf at the elite level, I think he just tried to stamp some sort of authority, rather than play the safe, consistent golf that saw him start with the lead group on the final round...I hope we see him in more majors over the coming year....Well Done Greg!

Well said mate! Here is a good article describing how the last round unfolded.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/golf/bgolfb-bogeys-bin-normans-british-open-hopes/2008/07/21/1216492289349.html
This is a telling quote though:
"It was the eighth time Norman had entered the final round of a major championship with the lead. Only once, at the 1986 British Open at Turnberry, has he won from that position. In comparison, Tiger Woods is 14-0 when leading a major into the final round." |

"It still doesn't fire me up to go and go out there," he said. "I don't plan on playing any more golf (after the seniors events) for awhile...I'll wake up tomorrow and in a couple of weeks time when I finish playing and we'll see how I feel."
Oh and what a lovely place to wake up in to contemplate your future....lol

8 = 1960, 1964, 1966, 1970, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981.

Shark was aided by the elements all week and nearly got over the line - but managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Shark did really well.
If you want to watch a real good Aussue kid - watch Jason Day - this kid has a great chance to be the best ever from Australia. |

Good Point nomadjack.
Shark has had a skills coach since he was 15 (first coach was Charlie Earp) - could explain something.
Tiger has multiple coaches - long game, short game, putting, phsyc, aerobic, weights etc.,
Ernie had 2 last weekend - Butch and his physc coach.
Amazing they all have skills coaches. |

Just as a matter of interest Sq3 how does the Collingwood coaching set up compare to that at other AFL clubs? Do we have similar structures and roles or are we under-coached compared to others? Do other clubs have the specialist skills coaches you are talking about? Do they rely on consultants instead? I know this is a major interest/concern to you, so any info you have would be good to know. |

I have no idea what the Pies are doing with coaches except the part time goal kicking coaching.
Always amazes me that the Pies always quote they are leading edge and you would have thought they would have been first with skills coaching.
The AIS coaching model for kicking - videos of none other than Didak to show the correct kicking mechanics.
Watch other codes - Robbie Dean with the Wallabies - no fancy plays as their basic skills are not good enough - so they are constantly drilled on the basic skills -and now their performances have improved.
Bellamy at the Storm- always stresses 2 things -
Stick to the game plan,
Stick to doing the basics well.
Sometimes we need to look at other codes to see how we can make our model better - locally and overseas.
In older times a 16 year old kid came down from the bush (Ararat) and was not as strong as he would have liked so did lots of extra weight work. Then needed extra pace so took up porfessional sprinting over the summer.
Kink did benefit from all of this - but these were in the days when the club has less money and some players did extra work on their own time.
Piggy used to kick 100 shots at goal on the optional Wednesday sessions and that worked pretty well.
Now the footballers are full time and don't seem to do the extra yards if they are lacking in their job.
Trevino was uncoached but a very natural talent - but still hit over 300 balls a day. |
