We should remember the great Tommy Hafey by playing for the Tom Hafey Cup, a perpetual trophy to be contested between the two clubs Tom did so much for.
Tom Hafey: Richmond legend, Collingwood legend, football legend.
The Tom Hafey Cup: Richmond v Collingwood for the honour of the great man's memory. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Geelong and Sydney can play a little league match at half-time.
Seriously, I'm not a huge fan of these endless 'cups', but there are already far less deserving names than Hafey celebrated. So, yeah, I guess we could. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Pretty sure that the pies and tigers already play for the Richards/Dyer cup. Maybe a Hafey medal for BOG?? |

How about a 'Stunning' Steve McKee certificate? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Collingwood and Richmond to this day play for the Dyer Richards trophy which was struck for games between the two clubs back in 1998
From memory the trophy is a vertical crystallised glass rectangle trophy with an image of Jack Dyer and Lou Richards and their records inscribed on it.
It was on show at the Westpac centre up until the foyer was renovated in 2012 , and like the Anzac trophy Coll v Ess it would go to the winning club to display until the next match between the two clubs. _________________ 1990 Grand Final :

Agreed a bit of respect to a great man and servant of Football. I like to joke but not about these types of things. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

So we've had it a while then? |

How about the player group vote on a medal each year to be awarded to the best of our assistant coaches. It could be presented at Copeland night to the member of the coaching panel (senior coach excluded) who has given them the most inspiration, learning, assistance, care, motivation etc... all the things Tommy was renowned for.
There are a lot of other medals on the night all named after Collingwood greats for the players. How about some recognition for a coach, voted on by the guys who'd know best. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

This idea has merit and not too bad really.
I think the AFL has a few too many cups being played for, while it's great to honour the greats with something a medal, either for a coach, or a best player on the day or something isn't too bad.
Honouring Hafey with an award named after him is something I'd support, not sure about a cup that's all. _________________ Ðavâgé

To be honest I'd rather just see Richmond and Collingwood come together to pay for a bronzed statue of Hafey to be displayed on the MCG side of punt road oval which people could admire on the main walkway from Richmond station to the G. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Sorry, I wasn't aware that joking about trophies was taboo (for the record, there's a big difference between disrespecting the dead and making fun of those demanding their immediate canonisation).
Anyway, I appreciate your good sense of humour. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |
