Can't find any links yet but just saw it on the new that both Party's have promised to spend up to $50 million on the Junction Oval for Cricket and for St Kilda to move back too.

How much taxpayers money did they waste at Seaford and Moorabbin over the years?

The idea of finally getting a half decent cricket ground for shield sized crowds, and then turning it over to footy is just stupid. Because ultimately the Saints will bleat about cricketers using the ground and we are back to square one.

The provision of talented cricketers to play for Victoria and Australia is a higher priority of some scum bag club who won one flag and that was dodgy in a 100 odd years of footy. Until they apologise for that scumbag O'Dea and his equally odious coach no taxpayer or AFL dollars should be wasted on them. And even then it is of doubtful benefit.

So I'm guessing there's some St Kilda supporting electorate that's sitting on a knife edge then?

The state electorates in St.Kilda include the electorates of Albert Park, Prahran and Caulfield.

Albert Park is a Labor seat and has been since 1950 but there was a 7% swing towards the Liberals in the last state election in this seat. Prahran is often a swinging seat which is currently held by the Liberals since 2010 and it gained an 8% swing in the Liberals favour in the last state election and in regards to Caulfield it is clear Liberal seat and has been for a very long time.

I don't know which electorates would make up the Junction Oval area of St.Kilda. If someone knows that would be great.

afaik, the junction oval would have the training facilities but the club would use an oval across the road for footy training.

I think it's a good idea, because ultimately Melbourne is going to need a third football ground, and none of the others have the parking and transport facilities that this one does. If it ain't being used for cricket, then it could be used for football mid winter. A good choice for a game there - Collingwood v GWS, currently a waste of an afternoon at the MCG for the second time in 3 years.

And we welcome back the Save Albert Park mob. I am a friend of one of the convenors and his agenda was clearly on the side of amateur clubs, like veteran runners, who use the facilities rarely but are subsidised by ratepayers. He was always crying poor. Having to pay rates on a 4 bedroom Albert Park home he fully owned and the family holiday home (also fully owned) at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. The trouble now is that a lot more people live in the area in apartments east of the lake and if they join forces they will get the ear of the media.

The VFL stuffed up 50 years ago. Had they redeveloped one of the 2 grounds in the area to a decent sized stadium and had South and St Kilda and possibly Fitzroy share it and sold the Waverley land we would have already had our docklands. But like everything that KG Luke did it helped Carlscum and dated its opposition.

Docklands was a good idea because it was ideally located and serviced by public transport. Unfortunately things like the Colonial Club cruelled it. And by the time the AFL own it it will be due a refurbishment.

St Kilda left because they thought they had a better deal and promised to change their name to Moorabbin. Eventually they called themselves Southern Saints for a brief period years later but by then momentum was lost.

It will be interesting to see how the CEO handles this given his amateur football background and if football clubs lose access to a training ground to StKilda it would almost certainly be an ammo club like Powerhouse that would lose out. Pressure may be on to find homes if any clubs are in danger due to the East-west tunnel as well. perhaps a complete rationalisation of all grounds in the Albert park precinct is required with some redevelopment of pavillions to better utilize the space. When does the Grand Prix contract run out?
