I had dinner tonight with a mate who's brother in-law is involved some how at Essendon
As I liked to take the piss out of his missus as she's a Essendon supporter he told me the most amazing story.
I said to her "ell at least next year you won't have to worry about it you won't have a team"
The husband says yes they will
I said how's that WADA have you in the gun sights and aren't going anywhere and Andy can't save you this time
He said he had been told the AFL and Essendon had been working on a "doomsday" scenario where 37 players were outed for 2yrs.
I said what play your seconds and leave the VFL short a team ?
He said no every club would have to nominate 6 players from there list from which Essendon will be able to select 2 players. The other clubs will be then allowed to elevate 2 rookies to cover
I said clubs won't agree to it
He aid they will have to because if they don't Essendon won't be there and neither will the TV money.
I said play the VFL team easy
He said won't happen the AFL have to appease the broadcasters by showing they are trying to provide a competitive team in Essendon colours
I said the AFLPA won't stand for it you can't force players to move like that
He said well that's the plan the players might be be given extra financial incentive to make the move
I said so what Essendon won't have a salary cap ?
He said no they will it will be spent paying the players who aren't playing the AFL will cover the new payroll
Now if any of this is actually true or a patchwork of part conversations I don't know but he sounded confident every time I posed a question he had answers

There isn't 37 players still on Essendons list that would be affected by any bans.

1 player from every club would be about what it would take now.

^ Surely each club would offer their 6 least skilled players so that wouldn't help strengthen Essendon's list. They would lucky to pick up 24 VFL quality players by doing this.

Not sure that's right, Seeds - I reckon Essendon could be seriously strengthened by getting everyone else's worst player (except, of course, for the Blooz).

Once Hird is gone he is will lose that extra protection he has been receiving being the current coach.

Players will find it easier to criticise him, the Club might find they start supporting the current players instead of their golden boy ex-player.

Could be an important development in Hird going down! Very Happy

So, we have an answer, it appears - Hird will last until 18 August 2015. See http://www.magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopic.php?t=77968

Well, at least I got to see his last brilliant performance in the coach's box on Sunday. Would have been very sad if I'd missed it.

Hopefully, the "plummeting Bumbler bounce" factor associated with appointing an interim coach will wear off after this game or the next.

It is perhaps worth noting that this thread was started during the third quarter of the Bumblers' thrashing a the hands of the 'Aints. That was 5 July 2015. Thus, it took about 6 weeks from the time the first serious rumblings about the Bumblers on field performance began until he fell on his sword.

There's a message, there: when things concerning on-field performance turn ugly, they turn ugly very quickly.
