Post subject: Ex Pie wont line up for Saints in NAB
|
AFL Feb.9th. St.Kilda recruit Nathan Freeman will not feature in the NAB Cup
Challenge as Saint take a conservative path with the midfielders recovery
from hamstring troubles.
Freeman strained his right hamstring again in December during his first
summer with Saints.

Wow. Freeman's injury woes obviously continue and the Jake Carlisle mess has been an utter disaster.
You've got to feel for the Saints.
Or not. |

Quote: | Setback for Saint as troublesome hamstring flares again
ST KILDA recruit Nathan Freeman's troublesome hamstring has flared again with the former Pie being withdrawn from Sandringham's VFL reserves team on Saturday.
Freeman was expected to play in the clash against Coburg but tightness in the muscle at training on Friday meant he was pulled out of the team.
He will have scans in the coming days.
Saints coach Alan Richardson told reporters on Thursday the club had expected a bumpy ride for Freeman.
"He's had a couple of mishaps, we certainly won't pretend that hasn't happened, but we knew that would happen," Richardson said.
"When you don't play footy for two years, it's unlikely you're going to come in and just hit the ground running and not have interruptions."
Freeman, 20, is yet to make a senior debut since being drafted at No.10 in 2013 by Collingwood.
He has lined up in two VFL reserves games this year. On April 9, Freeman gathered 46 disposals in three quarters, but sat out the next month after another setback. His return on May 14 saw him pick up 10 disposals. |

We'll always look back to that draft with a bit of angst.
I think we recovered well by getting Aish, even though it cost us an extra pick.
Also feel bad for the Berg, but theres a possibility that he'll find himself back in SA after the trade period. Could be best for both player and club tbh. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

With the benefit of hindsight, drafting Patrick Cripps at pick 10 rather than Nathan Freeman would have been ideal. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Drafting a KPP for development would have been better. Midfielders are, as we see, a dime a dozen and available everywhere. At the moment, we have about three dozen midfielders (we call some of them "running defenders" or "small forwards" these days) on the list and almost no-one to support Reid/Brown/Frost/Moore/Cox/Cloke in the key positions.
Anyway, back on topic, this latest news is a little disappointing, since it only seems to be about "tightness in the muscle" - when it comes to St Kilda players, I generally don't get too interested unless their legs have actually fallen off. |

Disappointing Freeman wasn't just honest when he left and said he wanted a fresh start with the club he grew up barracking for.
I was hoping we would take Salem instead, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Carlton, to their credit drafted an absolute machine in Cripps. Hats off to the baggers for good recruiting.
Presti35 - don't be silly. Scharenberg is not going anywhere and I certainly hope not. He has serious talent and work ethic. Be patient. |
