There's a relatively new expression being bandied around - "Destination club".
Port Adelaide is a destination club, Hawthorn is a destination club and Essendon is definitely a destination club. I'll include Melbourne because Jake Lever chose Melbourne. How come no player seems to want to nominate Collingwood as the destination club of choice. Maybe we don't have good facilities. Maybe they don't like our theme song. Maybe they don't like our new logo. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It's disappointing because I wouldn't have minded Watts, or Impey, or........ |

Meh, perhaps we're looking at a big fish, perhaps we're playing our cards close, perhaps we have our sights set on that KPP in the draft. Am not worried. No one being bandied around is our silver bullet. _________________ The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after. |

Isn’t this just the new jargon for the thing that Collingwood has always been (at least, as long as I can remember)? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

It's all about salary cap space. If people think those blokes are picking Essendon for any other reason than a better cash off they are dreaming. _________________ Brown re his GF omission:

The fact that Essendon is a 'destination club' after their drugs scandal tells you all you need to know. Its about money and nothing else. They reportedly have a bucket load of cash to spend and we apparently have no cap room whatsoever. |

If we have no cash then why were we linked to Lever? |

Interesting the new "buzz" term -Destination club
Would want players to come to us because they see a good future

I think the club is just being very selective to address needs rather than chasing wants. If we take a kpp at the draft with our pick 6 then it will all start to make sense. _________________ People forget that our last premiership was only 2010 and rebuilds take some time. 2018 we play finals again. |

Bit of an overreaction IMV. We've had Treloar, Hoskin-Elliott and Aish nominate us over other clubs and have had no problems with bringing in Howe and Varcoe. Dunn would have gone to anyone who offered him a lifeline you'd think and Wells was happy to come across (and why not under the circumstances). Our record in attracting players in the last few years has been fine.
Players don't just announce which club they want to get to. They are in dialogue with clubs well before they intend to move and pick whichever club offers them the best deal.
Considering the number of trades we have successfully made in the last few years and our lack of a 2nd rounder this year (and a real need to use our 1st rounder effectively, even if it is in a trade) then I wouldn't be surprised if we just haven't put any work into any of the trade prospects this year. |
