Can someone explain to me why having Murphy at 6 is a problem? _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Because 17 other teams didn’t think he was a top 25 Pick.
Based on our inability to identify our own star talent in recent seasons, it’s a worry that we were the only club to identify a particular player as top 10 when no one else did. _________________ Est. 2002 |

^Sheep mentality. Natural scepticism and doubt.
Other clubs didn't rate him, so Collingwood must be wrong. Only time will tell if that is the case
Dayne Beams, Dane Swan are examples of when we found value in someone when others didn't
Mock drafts had Murphy generally in the teens. These drafts are somewhat driven by conversations with recruiters. Other recruiters obviously saw something in him, but preferred others with those picks in the meantime.
My takeaways from the forum
Back stocks
- Darcy will spend some time back in 2018. They think McClarty will come on and replace Dunn at some stage. Scharanberg will play tall, Langdon similar with an eye to coping with Caddy/Townsend/Castagna/Graham types who play tall as marking forward types but with flexibility once it hits the deck.
Note Craig Kelly's son will be eligible for father son next year and he is 193cm+.
Also have a kid of Tongan descent in our zone who we can pick up apparently
Murray was picked up to replace Sinclair. Cost us nothing and we will use the extra picks gained for upgrading or father son next year.
Mongrel
Look for Maynard and De Goey to add it as they develop. It is natural in them. Maynard up field is in part about introducing his aggression and also about moving him upfield so that his errors are less costly.
Due process
Club acknowledges the error in this respect with Gubby. Our CEO hire was representative of an increased level of due diligence and process being introduced to the club
Fans
Place will be made more member-centric. Will look at opening up Holden Centre for away games, noting that no-one came when it was made available in the past. (I'm not sure people were aware though.)
Ed frustrated at the MCC and AFL control over things in terms of the push against walk to the G, cheer squad noise tempering, large banners, inability to stand in the rows for short bursts. Yes Port do walk the Oval, but we've been told no, despite starting the trend.
Social club access for 100% of home games, not ~75% likely
Pokies
There will be changes made with regards to our reliance upon them. It will be greatly reduced relatively soon I expect.
Our new CEO
Other recent appointees by competitors were not even on our short list. Club wanted a different type, with less of an AFL indoctrination but an ability to be a professional administrator/businessman, with some sporting background. Importantly, he had been a CEO before. Club feel he really drove a turnaround in Swimming post the lows in our performance at the London Olympics. Considered of high value and integrity. I'm hopeful he can drive change at Collingwood too.
Medical/health
Elliott should be right by season start

Ned Guy explained that he expects Murray to be playing a lot of senior football next year, in which case the Murray trade won't look so terrible. |

The club views Murphy as an elite kick. If that's true then the expected high draft pick is reasonable and you wonder why other clubs didn't draft him earlier. |

Wrong. Teams could had him top 25 but when they Picked they had someone else ahead of Murphy in there Top 25 _________________ I am Da Man |

Full credit to Eddie. The second last guy who spoke said the review of the football department didn't go far enough and should have recommended after 4 years of failure that Buckley should have been sacked and we should be looking for a new senior coach for 2018. People tried to drown him out but Eddie let him speak. Then after the meeting Eddie went over to him and spoke to him. |

As I stated, if the club regards him as an elite kick, then a high draft pick is warranted. Elite kicks are worth their weight in gold. The other clubs might not have seen it that way, but Murphy hasn't played much football, so he's a very difficult player to judge. We will find out next year one way or the other. If it turns out well the club should be congratulated for identifying his talent so early. |

To those doubters about Murphy I say hold you’re judgement.
Nobody had heard of one Scott Pendlebury when Hine called him out at pick 4 either. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

In past years, the B&F has been streamed, but the Member Forum has had no streaming but only edited videos afterwards. (All this according to my current memory.) The club has indicated that there'll be such videos this year, too. |
