Moore, I think played with a back complaint, but he wasn’t to blame either. We had several players down on form and the Freo midfield ran rings around us. I’m sorry we lost for Pendlebury’s sake. He almost carried us over the line. Fyffe and Walters were magnificent today and deserved their win, but if we hadn’t fallen asleep for the first 15 minutes of the third quarter we had this game under control and shouldn’t have lost it. |
blah blah blah... that was an insipid display from a side trying to cement a top 2 position.
You can sugar coat it all you like, but if this team doesn't bounce back and absolutely destroy Melbourne next week... I seriously doubt we will contend this year.
Beams is a write off... get him out now and bring in Daicos, write it off and move forward.. a 2010 premiership player, sure, so was Reid, another to move on.
Grow some balls Collingwood, *&^*(&%$% wake up! |

To be honest, we aren't finishing top...Cats have a super soft draw and are the best team of the year. So we only need to finish second and see what happens.....which will inevitably be another GF loss...because that's what we do. |
I'd be more worried if we had the Cats record to be honest. Nothing worse than leading the whole race and falling at the last hurdle. There's a stat somewhere about winning the premiership after finishing #1 at the end of the home n aways and it's not great.
2018 Richmond winner West Coast #2
2017 Adelaide winner Richmond #3
2016 Sydney winner Bulldogs #7
2015 Fremantle winner Hawthorn #3
2014 Sydney winner Hawthorn #2
2013 Hawthorn winner Hawthorn #1
2012 Hawthorn winner Sydney #3
2011 Collingwood winner Geelong #2
2010 Collingwood winner Collingwood #1
2009 St Kilda winner Geelong #2
2008 Geelong winner Hawthorn #2
2007 Geelong winner Geelong #1
2006 West Coast winner West Coast #1
2005 Adelaide winner Sydney #3
2004 Port Adelaide winner Port Adelaide #1
2003 Port Adelaide winner Brisbane #3
2002 Port Adelaide winner Brisbane #2
2001 Essendon winner Brisbane #2
2000 Essendon winner Essendon #1
1999 Essendon winner North Melbourne #2
So,
#1 has won 6 out of the last 20 flags
#2 has won 8
#3 has won 5
And the umpires won one in 2016.
Obviously one does not wish to finish #4. The last time #4 won was Adelaide in 1997. West Coast also did it in 1992, and before that only Richmond in 1969 in the last 50 Grand Finals.
The last ten years the odds for #1 drops to 20%, of course that could mean it's due. _________________ Get back on top. |

I'm more annoyed at Howe not getting a free kick, to be honest.
Anyway, Geelong will come undone. Hawkins will be getting a 1-2 week holiday for his whack. |

Time for the Coach to do some very careful evaluation of how many of our slow guys who can't cover ground can stay in the team at the one time. |
Gee your quick to take pot shots at Beams then add a few names in to hide your absolute bias
Beams game tonight was superior statistically than Sidey's last week yet you don't come out swinging at Sidey against Sydney just another pass mark for a poor performance
Beams DE by FOOT tonight 68% Sidey 45%
Beams DE by FOOT last week 71% Sidey 51%
In game day thread you said Beams goal there opponent run off him
Ok no problems but be consistent
Hill run off Sidey 3 times kicked 2 himself and gave another off but you silent on that
Rewatched the vision again and see how Hill left Sidey standing absolutely still with no idea but in your mind that's a pass mark
Beams had a bad night no hassles with that but to have credilibilty you have to FAIR in your appraisal
You are the first to highlight how Sidey plays a different role and is there for forgiven for a quiet game but you don't allow the same latitude for Beams or other players
Go and look at Sidey and Beams 2018 compared to 2019
Sidey is down 29% on output and Beams is down 18% on output statistically across disposals
Both players are being asked to play different roles and the beneficiary at the moment is Pendles who might be having a near career best season
I don't think either Beams or Sidey have played well this season by there own high standards of years gone by but you lose all credibility when you single one player out consistently on a weekly basis given your well known hatred of him |

Why don’t you pop off to next week’s pregame thread and have your discussion there? 4 or 5 people (on the first page) have already called for Beams to be dropped. I am not one of them. |

Wow, how you managed to turn p4s's post is into a Sidey vs Beams spiel is both predictable and beyond comprehension.

Post subject: 2 questions about the Freo game | |
|
1. Travis Varcoe marked the ball 25 metres dead in front of goal 10 seconds before the end of the 3rd quarter. Why did he handball it off?
2. How is it that the most dangerous Freo forward Michael Walters was able to mark the ball on his chest in that last minute? Who was on him? Anyone? |

1. Trav Varcoe confidence is shot.
See .....the whole game....he has no confidence whatsoever.
His career is at the end.
2. It was a mongrel floating punt that dropped short.
Collingwood were expecting a drop punt.
Shit happens. |

1. I don't wish to watch it again but I think he was more than 25 metres out, probably about 40 iirc. Regardless, he should've taken the shot

Varcoe was 40m our, would have to kick from 45-50.
In his defence, we scored a goal, albeit a second after the siren. If we could handball properly (in this instance, Brown’s horrid 10m effort at Reid’s feet), Reid probably goals before the siren. _________________ Est. 2002 |

That was pathetic!
Some need to hang their heads in shame, they thought it was gonna be an easy task.
Writing's been on the wall for a few weeks now.
Wrong move recruiting Beams, too old too slow.
It wasn't that error that cost us, they butchered & fumbled the ball all day whilst Freo ran.
Been drinking their own bath water.
Melbourne are licking their lips, won't they be happy they now have a decent chance to beat us on their GF Monday week. |
OH look.It only took you 2 months of winning before you could come out with inane rant and bile. Totally un surprised mind you. |

You could tell from the start that were going to be up for a contest. They came to play and prove a point while we plodded along like we just rolled out of bed. The past few weeks we've had tough encounters but managed to grind out wins or blast teams away with one glitzy quarter of football. Yesterday was never going to be that way but we didn't seem to have an answer to counter their constant pressure on the ball carrier and their ability to run and find space.
We looked slow and ineffective. Too much hot potato handballs to blokes either standing still, or under immense pressure or shoddy short kicks not hitting their target. Yes beams and de goey, I'm talking to you!
Our defenders were up against it all day but tried gallantly. Their forwards seemed content for us to bring the ball down and pick up the scraps. They fed off grundy easy enough, like all teams do and we still haven't managed to find a way to use grundy's ruck dominance to our advantage.
Missing easy shots always comes back to bite you in the arse, and it certainly did yesterday. Our midfielders were woeful and ineffective for most of the day. DE was sub par. Turnover after turnover after turnover. We can't handle pressure and we looked slow. They run, carry and create space. We stop, prop and wait to kick it to a contest or turn the ball over. So predictable. There's no excuse for conceding multiple coast to coast goals like we did.
We had our chances but didn't take them. They had theirs, and did. And what's with playing keepings off with 2.30mins to go?!?! JDG I'm talking to you again!!! We're up by a few points and you nearly cough it up by going backwards before successfully managing to turn the ball over with a hospital pass.
Blame the umpires all you like but it was the team who should bare the brunt of the blame. We were found out. We lack desire and tenacity. Unless we find it we'll be out of the 8 soon enough. |

I knew it was gonna be tough, these buggers had beat the eagles by six goals, few weeks back.
we had too many down today, only Pendles, Howe, Grundy, roughie, treloar, crisp, and coupla others earned their pay today
we were due for a loss, we got out of jail v blues and swans, it was a timely wake up call loss, the loss we had to have.
dockers did play very well, but our turnovers killed us. really hurt, we miskicked a lot, we just looked jaded today, tired, this was indeed the loss we had to have.
cant wait for big Cox, jamie, and Langdon to be back. cant wait. |
How can you possibly include Crisp and Treloar in the acceptable list.
I lost count of the number of turnovers from them, and most were not under pressure. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |
