Get stuffed God!! |
Deludio - gone
Mitch Robinson - gone
It’s a start and both teams have to play again before we get one of them
Good things come to those who wait. |

Hmmm.... he certainly lifted his attack on the ball in the final quarter which was great to see . However, I believe his performance before that was perhaps the only one that I was questioning. Another selection quandary coming up because Varcs may have been better value overall. |
HAven't seen his stats yet but THought he went hard, took some leading marks and some good connecting handballs. Missed a snap that he usually get. I say he stays...
I want reid in for FJG but I have no idea if his even fit... We need another tall. Was missing after JDG went down.
Aish to replace Greenwood unless Shazz can take a slower player. |

The longer the game went on without de Goey the more we struggled to find a marking target and this was only amplified with our go slow approach in the last quarter. |
Yes I agree, hopely medicos clear him. He should be ready, just depends on if he can play out the game. He showed good form in the ganes he played. |

So, you want to explain to me the Geelong game plan? I can do it for you if you like, and I can do it in two words.
It’s shit. |
I must say, the switch was regularly on, but Tom Stewart, like a modern day Hymie, seemed to be programmed to bang it back down the line from whence it had came. His switchees weren't that enamoured with his choices. Found that an interesting choice, made time and time again, through all quarters, so obviously with coaching approval.
Also interesting was how the Pies outflanked the Cats when other people were attempting to switch, it was a great tactial game that we played. We occasionally gave up the middle, but the Cats refused to use it much. This plan will change to the opposite if we play the Tigers though who flood forward through the middle. Usually this outflanking business is used against us, in 2017 it was done in devastating fashion by low ranked teams, but we are adapting. | What's outflanking? |

If DeG or Reid, or maybe even Wells had been there we would have.
Taht extra tall is what we've trained for for over 2 years so hard to break the habit now.
This game suggested that an additional classy medium
(in this case DeG, Elliot, Stevo, hyphen, Miho)
(I mean just looking at the list of those 5 guys you can see the difference compared to just 4 of them, which is already more fire power than almost any other team)
also works as a substitute, hence Wells addition might also create that "critical mass' of forward potency that overwhelms any defense but Reid woudl be the safer option.
Reid doesn't ahve to star like Carcy did in this game, he just has to play that Cox/Roughhead-as-forward role of bringing the ball to ground to provide fodder for teh smalls, ie preventing an intercept markingfest by the oppo as has tended to ahppen esp vs WC, Geelong. Richmond in recent years, and allowing that kick in hope in his direction when there are no good leading options. The team just has to avoid falling back on that option too much as they tended to do with Cox. this game shoudl ahve been good practice in doing that ie always trying to find a leading target and using kick in hope only as last resort. |

Good player when the Cats’ midfield included Bartel, Ablett, Champman, et al. Personally, I’ve always regarded him as vastly overrated. |
Nice to see Duckwood returning to his position as the number one Aussie bleeder. Geez that guy cuts more easily than a punch drunk boxer in the 15th round against Mike Tyson. |
TBH, I think we smashed them in the midfield, due to the ferocious pressure of both Tay and Wombat. Tim Kelly likewise was basically non-existent for them. Losing Duncan turned out to be a massive blow for them, since that meant they basically had only one effective midfielder - Dangerfield.
You may or may not be right about Selwood, but I think his lack of impact during the game was much more due to our midfield ascendancy than anything else. |
yeah I think the Willserbeast has been the main reason for our resurrection from form slump, along with Tay of course. Geelogn didn't have an answer to him and also few if any teams have such a mid - maybe Cunningham? Also Mummy in a different way
Just shows, we tend to think oh he doesn't have much skills, talent or athleticism, jsut a tackling machine /battering ram. But maybe those qualities aren't as easy as people think. Tackling is a quite sophisticated skill and also needs a particular kind of endurance and of course toughness. Eg in rugby and gridiron there are players who pretty much do only that who are stars earning millions. Hail the wombat! Hopefully he stays under the radar and oppos dont' put much work into him for the duration of this final series, so I better shut up about him now... |

The other thing I noticed about Will's was that he is happy to pick up the ball and absorb the tackle so that we get more stoppages. That allows us to set up for around the ground stoppages and for Grundy to do his thing in the ruck. |

I think they're already on to the Wombat, unfortunately. I think that's why Scott left out Stanley and included Menengola instead. They thought that, due to our small forward line, and due to their plan of rotating others in the ruck to wear down Grundy, they could bring in another big body mid to negate Wills' pressure. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

While I appreciate that we've been screwed by injuries, let's not actually wish pain on human beings in order to get a victory. Poor way of thinking about things IMO.
Similar to the weird booing of Ablett last night. He hadn't done anything wrong really, he's a champion. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |
