No Dunn? That's disappointing.
Also, another (kind of) ex-Pie has been picked up (Michael Hartley's going to Hawthorn). _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

They're probably going to monitor Dunn until the March Supplemental Draft. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

And just for house keeping purposes, I can confirm the Mitch Brown and Dees have agreed on terms for 2020.
They are still considering their options with Bennell.
Collingwood ( and GWS ) also spoke to Brown but the opportunities and offer from the Dees was to good to refuse. |

Dunn will be "drafted" in the pre supplement period in the new year.
He is training with the club and working/coaching with the AFLW players too.
It is strange that we passed in the rookie draft today though. I was very surprised to see we didnt have a crack at someone.
Maybe my math is off, I thought we had two picks. We only had one. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

According to the APS' figures, just over a quarter – 25.6 per cent – of the players drafted to AFL clubs in 2017 came from the 11 schools who make up the APS, which also supplied four of the first five picked. That's just 11 schools from one state, out of 2755 Australian schools that run to year 12 (2018).
The 11 schools are cradles of the country's owners and decision-makers: Melbourne Grammar, Scotch College, Geelong Grammar, Xavier College, Wesley College, St Kevin's College, Haileybury College, Caulfield Grammar, Brighton Grammar, Geelong College and Carey Grammar.'

"Elite private schools continued to supply a large proportion of the draft talent in 2019.
Of the 78 players taken in the national or rookie drafts, 25 attended Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) and Associated Grammar Schools (AGS) schools in Victoria or their equivalent elite private schools in WA and South Australia.
Four of the top 10 players in the draft were from the APS..."

We need to remember that “ most “ ( as in more than 51% ) of these kids were identified as talented sports kids before they made their way onto an APS role call. The APS schools will offer scholarships to anyone who is elite in their chosen sport, regardless of any academic achievement. As an example, Toby Greene was considered unteachable but was still offered a scholarship by Wesley. On the flip side, Sam Walsh never attended an APS school but that didn’t stop him going as the standout number one pick.
In recent years, the AFL and the APS football program have worked a lot closer at establishing an arrangement that sees the kids get a fair and even balance of both APS and U18 comp participation. Most kids game times are now monitored and capped over a season so as not to induce fatigue injuries.
It’s a real balancing act but at least the AFL have finally identified the need for change ( or at least working closer with the schools ) |

afl.com.au:
"Sandy's still the real 'footy factory'...
While others might lay claim to being a hotspot for talent around the country, Sandringham have again proved to be the most prolific under-age program by supplying eight players in the draft. Although being bundled out in the semi-finals of the NAB League, new Dragons will be dotted all around the competition, starting with new Crow Fischer McAsey, who was taken at No.6. Adelaide obviously liked the looks of what the Dragons did, taking defender Josh Worrell at No.28, while Hawthorn made sure Finn Maginness followed in the footsteps of his dual premiership winning father Scott by taking him at No.29. Miles Bergman (No.14), Jack Mahony (34), Hugo Ralphsmith (46), Ryan Byrnes (52) and Louis Butler (53) rounded out Sandy's crop. The huge result comes after the Dragons had three of the first seven picks in 2018 (Max King, Ben King and Bailey Smith) and five of the first 11 in 2016 (Andrew McGrath, Tim Taranto, Will Setterfield, Jack Scrimshaw and Oliver Florent)." |

Saturday morning sports is usually compulsory for the elite private schools as well. Don't see that happening within the public school system. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

That’s actually one of the proposals the AFL are working on with the schools.
They’re trying to work towards more mid week games. I have spoken to many parents over the years, who have kids in both private schools and the ( former ) U18 TAC competition. The feedback is always the same. The AFL should have been across this 10 - 15 years earlier. |

* Monday 2 December 2pm - Final AFL Club List Lodgement.
*Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period, from December 1 to March 15, in which clubs can select a rookie if they have a spot vacant
I think we only have the one spot left now, which will be used on Dunn. Unless something drastic happens. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |
