^ Caracella was a solid player for us. He grew up barracking for us as a kid.

He kicked 34 goals in 2005 when we only won 5 matches for the year, so he was a notable highlight of the year. A shame his career ended in the circumstances it did, but retirement was the only option in that situation.

Even though he wasn't a direct replacement, I see Medhurst as filling the void left by Caracella's retirement. While Medhurst wasn't the number one forward target, he was a very handy player for us particularly in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Chris Dawes had a bit of John Anthony about him.

Had one good season before opposition coaches worked him out.

Dawes was Underrated how Important he was

Jarrod Malloy. Such a shame he had dodgy ankles. Loved the D9.

Injuries and being asked to pinch hit in the ruck - a role he wasn't suited to - hurt Dawes more than anything. Anthony's issue was that in that time that he played well for us, it was because of an unsustainable high efficiency - he'd get fewer than ten possessions a game, but he was getting 2-3 goals a game because of his excellent accuracy. The writing was on the wall in our three finals in 2009, where he got just 14 disposals across those games.

Brad Dick is the one that hurt most. A genuine crumbing ‘small’ forward (despite his tall height) that we desperately needed and continue to need, a booming left foot kick, deadly accurate, smart, beautiful footpass, sublime smarts and skill, a livewire with an infectious on field personality to boot.

Sigh.

He only had one problem - he couldn't find the ball.

Five goals on Queen’s Birthday?
His third quarter in the 2009 elimination final vs Adelaide?
His problem was his body wasn’t built for the rigours of AFL.

Yes, memorably (or I guess not?) kicked five goals in his first game for us in our round 1 loss against Richmond in 2002, and then only managed four more cameos – in which he had a combined total of four kicks* – for the rest of the season.

*Actually, even more remarkably, his final tally for us in his five games was ten kicks for six goals and three behinds – which means only one kick in his entire career for Collingwood wasn't a score! I guess he wasn't exactly the most mobile of forwards...

I agree that he was hit hard by injuries, but a career average of 6 kicks and 3 handballs in the games that he did play, is supportive evidence enough for my point.

Over a goal a game, too, for whatever that's worth.

Brad Dick was an amazing player, but injury ravaged that skinny body.
I used to call him the baguette because the Bread Stick always looked like he would snap in half.

What About Blake Carcella

Blake was class, was rapt when we picked him up. Unfortunately that freak incident against the Bears cut his time short with the Pies.

Yeah that was very sad how his Career ended with Copeland Breaking his Neck.

I also remember that was the Game Pendles Debuted.

Feel IF Blake did not get his Injury he would been a Big Help in the 2007 PF vs Cats

The club was TOLD to draft both Caracella and Moorcroft, but in their infinite wisdom, picked another batch of utter spuds which would haunt us in the years to come when we bottomed out by 98 and 99:
