Post subject: If the O'Brien tweet came from a Collingwood player | |
|
Would the headlines be different?
Would Jaqui Felgate be saying thats two of footys nice guys?
As we know Riley O'Brien from the Crows put out a tweet calling NicNat lazy and unfit. O'Brien later explained his phone was broken and it was a mistake.
After the WCE V Crows game, NicNat gave O'Brien a new phone in a nice (and comical) gesture.
So what if it was a Collingwood player? Would the story be different? Would the backlash on social media be different? Would it still be a cosy little story? Or would we all be sitting here copping it for another act of stupidity and ignorance from a Collingwood player?
And would Eddie be on radio trying to justify it all? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I thought O"Brien was a bit soft. If you're going talk smack stick to your guns. Don't get on Nic Nats d*ck.
I didn't like him calling Nic Nat the premier ruckman in the league eitheir, when it's broadly accepted that Grundy is. Perhaps before the Pies play the Crows a journo should ask O'Brien if he still thinks Grundy is overrated. Then we can watch him sh*t himself again. |

People seriously need to toughen up if they take offence at a “run off him because he’s lazy and unfit” comment. Biggest beat up ever. And yes, it would have been turned into a mega mountain if it was by a Collingwood player, some muckraker journos would have tied it in with racism and bad culture too. |

ABC last night angling for racism, no one took the bait thankfully. Unbelievable. |

We'd still be talking about it if it was one of ours. And it probably would be deemed racist in some way. Definitely unprofessional and ignorant and bad taste, etc...
But this one had a cosy cute ending and all is forgiven and forgotten. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

<snip> - Let's just avoid gratuitous speculation about what a Collingwood premiership great might have said, speaking entirely hypothetically, if this incident concerned a Collingwood player, which - of course - it doesn't. If a Collingwood player, YES, YES, NO, YES and as for Eddie YES.

This is a given. It still amazes me no end that some magpie fans actually need to be told this🥺 if you are over 18 or so, you should know this as fact just from your own experiences. Older posters like Piesnchess and myself have seen these media double standards over many years and if anyone can be bothered to chase it up, I even wrote a few posts on Nick’s highlighting the subconscious biases affecting umpires when they officiate Collingwood matches. Instead of yet another whinge, I logically stated reasons for this anti Collingwood bias. That doesn’t make me totally right but at least it gives an insight as to why it might happen. Each one should still have their own opinion on umpires as we all have different experiences and lengths of time observing this issue.
So these double standards will never change because in order to feed these media chooks and their bosses they need to beat up everything Collingwood related. Such has been life, and will be life as long as Collingwood exists. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination.
