Been in both GF's we've played in since we started doing this. |
Good point.

I think the writing is on the wall.
Our first pick this year will wear #35 in 2021.
Nick Daicos will then wear it in 2022. I think he and the club will be encouraged for him to keep it from there. Which makes sense. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Sam McClarty? Did I zone out there for a year? Who was Sam McClarty, I have absolutely no memory of him whatsoever.... _________________ "You hate a mean man, a grasping man, a man who wants everything and gives nothing. That’s Collingwood. They are a law unto themselves"

That link is a story about him from a few years back. He is deaf and usually played with a helmet on. Was a key forward. There were a few that weren't too happy about his delistment at the time.
He's now playing for Williamstown I think? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I agree that perhaps the club can look at #35 being given as a permanent number to a player, but #42 should remain retired.
And who knows how many will be on the lists next year (still waiting on the AFL to make a decision). If clubs don't even have 42 players then it is a moot point. _________________ Manassa is on the 50m, fakes the handball. He's going to shoot for goal, and he's put it through! HE'S PUT IT THROUGH. Welcome Oliver Henry to the number.
I feel like he might be the last one to wear it from this tradition, with Nick Daicos coming in next year. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Actually a pretty impressive list when you look at it – the biggest critique of this policy (which I'm pretty lukewarm on myself) has been that the no. 35 rarely gets on the park at senior level, but the list shows that that's not necessarily the case at all. I think it's fair to say that half of the ten listed have made a notable impact in their first seasons. (Though, to be honest, I'd totally forgotten that Elliott, Grundy and De Goey wore it!) _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I think it’s time to get the #42 back out there. Wether it’s as No. 1 or not I don’t care but with Nicks arrival it seems a good time to pass the baton. Ed made a promise to Pants’ mum and that’s fine but Ed’s gone and Pants mum has had a good run. She now needs to see the alt view which is to get the number out there again to revive the memory of him and make it live forever. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Rantall and Sier both let go this year.
I think it's time to let this one go now. Daicos will get the number now and I think (if he wants to keep it) should have it his entire career.
I'm sure Presti would be ok with this if asked.
It's amazing to think it's been worn in 2 GF's and that 4 of those guys played together in the 2018 GF. It could be a different story had 'Berg and Elliott stayed fit and 7 of those 11 were Premiership players with IQ, Rantall and Henry young enough to be around for our next flag.... But that's not how the story goes.
I'm glad they didn't do this with 42. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

42 shall remain in the vaults until Denise joins Darren, which hopefully is no time soon.
It will only be more media fodder, and cause division amongst the fans, which is what the parasites thrive on. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Bit of pressure on the player wearing it too.
It needs to mean something and looking at the 35 over the past 11 seasons, I feel like some of those players couldn't give a rats about the number or what it means.
You could hear the comments now when a player in 42 makes a mistake.
I think having it out of circulation keeps his memory alive more than when in another 30 years we've seen a heap of players wear it and everyone has forgotten about its meaning. I'd like to see my grandkids ask me why 42 isn't worn rather than it lose its significance.
I dont know, it's a touchy subject. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |
