But you still haven't answered my question: if it's true information in the public interest, regardless of provenance, on what grounds do you choose not to publish? Are you really going to hide something newsworthy from the public because you don't want to give Putin a free kick? _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

(a) By what lunatic definition do you define "in the public interest".
(b) You keep talking about "journalists" and "publishing" as if Putin's spies and Assange were doing either. They weren't. Putin's goons used illegal intelligence-gathering methods to further their master's evil agenda: destabilise the west and do as much harm as possible. Assange was simply feeding his ego. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Biden speaks at a service commemorating the 400,000 people who have died from the coronavirus in the last 12 months.Meanwhile Trump is locked away in the White House pardoning cronies and crooks like Steven Bannon.Spot the real leader.
Hint:It ain’t Trump. |

Assange really had bugger all to do with getting Trump elected other than a few people who were never going to vote republican deciding not to vote at all.
There were a number of factors that all came together in a perfect storm to first get Trump to win the nomination and second the presidency by 74 seats.
The reasons a Trump was elected haven't really been fixed as shown by his increased votes in 2020, but his performance most recently since losing has likely dissuaded many from repeating the experiment.
It will be very interesting to see who the Republicans end up choosing next time. Biden will be the typical safe, boring politician who will achieve F all as POTUS except maybe slowing Covid and starting a few wars, will the Republicans go with another maverick non-politician or having been bitten, resort to the boring establishment drone.
And Trump being Putin's stooge is about as credible as the moon landing conspiracy theories. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

What wars would Biden start just of curiosity? All the wars that could have started are already ongoing.Afghanistan,Iraq,Syria for example.I can’t think of a new war that could be started in the next four years. |

While I initially thought the impeachment was a bit of a futile and overly symbolic exercise, now it’s come out that Trump essentially traded Assange and Snowden’s freedom for an assurance from McConnell that he’d be more likely to escape conviction if he didn’t pardon them, I really hope the Republicans in the Senate do vote to convict him in the end anyway. More, I hope the courts find a reason to lock him up (shouldn’t be hard, should it?) and throw away the key. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Just for the record: there was unambiguous and substantial interference in the 2016 election from the Russian influence machine; Assange did indeed conspire to interfere in that election; Trump did indeed welcome interference from both Russia and Assange.
That would get an Australian or British PM removed from either office or consideration for office within 30 seconds of publication. 'Period', to use the Amercanism.
How much of an influence it had in the scheme of things is up for debate. Comey's timing was the central factor in enabling it to be weaponised at the critical moment, though. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

The whole problem with much of the posting in the last few pages of this thread is that it proceeds on a misconception that just because Biden might have all sorts of shortcomings, Trump was not and is not lower than dirt, anti-democratic filth.
The two issues are not connected. We all know that the Democrats are mostly arseholes - they are, generally-speaking, a collection of centre-right big business supporters with little to offer the universe, save in the very limited, negative sense that at least they are not Republicans. That does not make Trump any more acceptable or diminish the appalling damage he has done to the US and to the world at large. |

Quite a few wars that could start up, the usual suspects: N Korea, Iran, but the biggest one for concern is Taiwan.
Us arms sales during the Obama / Biden years were about 6.4 to 7 billion or more, the Trump administration carried on with much the same policy with arms sales and support.
Recent PLA exercises in the Taiwan straight with air incursions would be of concern. The recent election of Tsai Ing-wen and Taiwan's success in the virus battle and increased international prestige an recognition makes a mockery of Xi who must not be blamed.
The Biden policy is unlikely to be any different from what it has been in the last 50 odd years. _________________ Pi = Infinite = Collingwood = Always

Wow! There are a hell of a lot of deaf and blind right wingers who are in utter denial, believing that Trump was actually a great President, a fabulous role model and a caring, empathetic person of the human race. I strongly suggest otherwise on both issues. His lack of decency to congratulate Biden personally is utterly contemptible and is in very bad taste by someone having a major hissy fit worse than a kid having a tantrum in kindergarten🙄 Good riddance to this “mega” fool of an idiotic lunatic whose 15 minutes of fame lasted a tedious four bloody years😡 _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination.
