Stop with the 12 mth rebuild hype... we'd all love that but if we actually really do have to rebuild (which we do), than let's do it right. We've already waited 10 years, what's 3 more for sustained shots at the flag?!! _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

As long as he is not related to Jackson Payne😀 _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine! |

But the media have labelled it a rebuild.
So who knows? Thin line between the two. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

not thin at all
Reset - you have the pieces...just need to re-start. Like a computer that has frozen and needs a reset to re-boot. Is back up and running in a few moments (or games in AFL speak)
Rebuild - the parts are wrong or faulty. Like a computer with a failed Motherboard, HD and faulty ram. Needs much more investment and time to fix. Will take days / weeks to fix (or Years in AFL speak)
I'll let you decide whether we are going to be competitive in a few games time or a few years time |

We’ll never be competitive while Bucks is coach. |

It's like when the club says "awareness", which means "ripped off the bone".
When the club says "reset", think "rebuild". |

imo realistically (and i know, no one wants to be lingering around the bottom of the table) we can most likely right the next TWO years after that off too. Why because if we are going to rebuild, we only want to do it once... |
It's at least a 7 year job. More like 10 if you want to do it right and get a dynasty up and running.
The Hawthorn dynasty is usually traced back to the 2001 draft with Hodge and Mitchell. They also picked up Franklin, Roughead and Lewis in 2004 and pinched their first flag in 2008. While they were a power thereafter, their period of true dominance didn't bear fruit for another 5 years (2013-5). The hiatus between 2008 and 2013 coincided with a lot of the old guard like Crawford retiring.
Geelong probably started their dynasty with the acquisition of Scarlett in 1997. But their big drafts were 1999 (Corey, Chapman, Enright, Ling) and 2001 (Bartel, Kelly, Johnson, Ablett). They were considered underperformers as late as 2006 before it all clicked for them the following year.
Richmond is a bit different. They hit a pocket in time where the league had been weakened by the expansion clubs. And whereas Geelong and Hawthorn had each other as contemporary rivals (as well as cameos from the likes of us and the Aints), Richmond hasn't had any real nemesis to speak of. Regardless, their stars, and I add a couple of quality second and third stringers here, were around for quite a while before they saluted: 2006 (Riewoldt, Edwards), 2007 (Cotchin, Rance), 2009 (Martin, Astbury), 2012 (Vlastuin, McIntosh)
So yeah... we aren't dynasty material at the moment. But a quick turnaround and we might be able to pinch a flag. If that's what we are all happy with. Getting lucky and pinching one. I'd prefer we get the right people together and plan a sustained assault on the top and build a dynasty. Each of the aforementioned clubs didn't just get lucky at the draft. They got their off field shit sorted out. They got quality coaches and fitness staff, especially in the case of Richmond. And they got themselves a fierce determination to win and to keep winning. And none of them were nice guys about it.
It will take a lot longer than a few years. |

We hit Rock bottom around 2005-6 after the GF’s of 2002-3 . We got Cloke pendles Thomas etc. around that time and went about building a good team with success in 2010. But we couldn’t sustain it due mainly to an internal implosion around the handover. Now it’s 2021, so after a 10 year downward spiral we are further away than ever. The key to a re build is fessing up to where you are at. The club has dedicated a decade to saving Buckley at the expense of the club, and still are. Unless that changes straight away it could be anything up to another 7 years. |
