Thanks Stui. Can't read the article because of the pay wall, but from the byline, it highlights one of the foremost things I admire about Bucks - he's a thoroughly impressive human being.
I am incapable of viewing players/coaches purely for their footballing prowess alone. Their personality and characters also strongly influence how I appreciate them. So for example, I love Swanny for his irreverant sense of humour, Pendles for his dedication, Tay for his determination, Billy for his grit in overcoming injuries, Checkers for his laconic cool and so on. Bucks has so many exceptional personal qualities, but it's the wisdom with which he approaches life in general that stands as a shining light for me. He is not perfect and his extreme stubbornness has not always served him well as a coach, but all up, he's simply an amazing individual in my eyes. |

Has had immense, unmeasureable positive impact on many lives, especially those of the young men he has coached, played with and against.
Terrific coach - not many win AFL coach of the year, get their teams to finals despite the odds.
We at Collingwood, so blessed to have had him. |
I agree,
He is the consummate professional, seems to me to not quite understand those who are not, always gave his heart and his soul I have no doubt. I cried buckets when he retired as a player, I treasure the hand written Thankyou note he sent me, and I really hope he goes into the media and smashes it, because the world in general could use a good uncompromising voice out there. Thanks for the memories bux. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Other clubs will have him very near the top of their lists when the time comes... and good on him. Champion player, good coach, who will be all the better for his last 10 years of experience in managing young men playing AFL footy. History may say Maybe a GREAT coach one day. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

I too want to give my thanks to you, Bucks. I suspect your time as coach of Collingwood has been unfulfilling in many respects and I also suspect you will move onto bigger and better coaching achievements in the years ahead. 10 years at the helm of one club is a long time, a long time of the constant message, no matter what that message is, so I think, though it pains me to say it, it is time to move on for everyone, but I wish you all the best and we will never, never forget.
