In an ideal world we would trade Grundy for high draft picks, play Lynch or some other passable ruckman on a low income and pay a new gun midfielder or key forward the money that Gundy is getting. But that isn't going to happen, so fair enough for him to have a go somewhere else. |
Wholeheartedly agree. We need to be smart. Imagine the picks and the free cap space to go after a genuine match winner or two. Grundy isn't a match winner and even less so if the midfield and forward line aren't up to snuff. I'm not sure his salary can be justified in terms of the dividends it pays. Don't get me wrong. I love Grundy but I'm trying to be pragmatic.
I really like the look of Lynch. He's very mobile and I feel that if we lose him, he will make a big impact elsewhere.
We should've traded Cloke when he had currency. Maybe Langdon too after 2018 when we re-signed him even though it seemed clear that his knee wasn't going to get better. We could've been smart and let Sydney take him, assuming they were going to go through with it.
The Pies have an unhealthy habit of persevering with players that don't perform or are endlessly injured. |

If you can incubate Ruckmen and fatten them up for trade then that is the silver lining if they don't play. If Hawks want him let's be bold and haggle for their pick 23. Hey Sheeds was able to fatten up a (mediocre at the time) Ted Richards for pick 19 after 4 average years with the Bombers. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

he played every game and was our best in a GF in 2018. Swans made and offer and we contracted him.
He played the first 9 games in 2019 before getting injured ......... But it was clear his knee wasnt going to get better ??? _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Over the years I have read many posts stating you dont draft ruckmen you let some one else develop them and then trade for them. Lynch should have a good trade value if this is true _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

In truth, in the 4 yrs he's been with us, Lynch has hardly been good enough to play senior footy. However, this year he has obviously stepped up and played two good games, when he got an opportunity.
As often is the case, ruckmen take a few years to become much good, and sometimes don't even play regular senior footy until their mid 20s. So Lynch may well become a good ruckman, but he is still surplus to our needs, and so it's in his interests, as well as ours for him to seek another club. If a trade helps us get the necessary points for Nick Daicos, then that's good. |

We have made the mistake before dumping ruckman who were about to take the next step. |
The Hawks don't want to spend years developing Ruckmen.
Just poach them from other clubs who spend 4 years of their time. |

We delisted Ceglar and Wood.
We got a 3rd round compo pick for Fraser.
Witts got us some points for Daicos/Brown.
As such, I'd expect Lynch to get us one (possibly two) first round picks, a KPF and a small island off the coast of Queensland. |

Because he has been there 5 years and still cannot mark over his head.
Get what you can for him before it's too late. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |

The Witts deal was the one that surprised me - we got two poor picks (in the mid 40s and low 60s, IIRC) for a player who pbviously had the makings of a first-rate ruckman. Yet, a few years prior, we gave up pick 14 to get Wood. Witts had played 40 games, Wood just 16. Yes, Witts was behind Grundy but, had Collingwood not recruited Grundy, Witts would plainly have been our first ruck. I know we wanted some points for the F/S selections but I still feel Witts was worth way more than we got. We put years of development into Jarrod - he was a NSW Scholarship Program recruit for us in 2008, so by the time we let him go for SFA, he'd around the 'pies for 9 seasons (and on the senior lift list for 5 seasons). |

I said at the time we were crazy to give up pick 14 for Wood. Was it Brisbane we got him from? They have a habit of screwing us. |
