I do the free bowel cancer check every 2 years but it's never been suggested to send Captain Nemo and the Nautilus up the clacker. |
Get on it Stui!
Doc recommended that once I hit 50 it's time for a look.
I had 4 polyps removed and as a result, have to go again in 3 years time.

By age 50, you should start getting a colonoscopy every 10 years, no matter your gender or overall health. As you age, your risk of developing polyps and bowel cancer increases. Getting routine colonoscopies helps your doctor find abnormalities early so they can be quickly treated. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

I'll check with my GP when I next see her. She's happy that I've been doing the regular Bowell Cancer checks, never mentioned sending a camera to the back of beyond.
I see the GP every six months for a reprimand, full set of bloods every 12 months, last one was all good on every measure. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Yes, another of the ageing joys we do.
My last one, the blood sugar level had crept up a little. Did the glucose tolerance test thing (more fun) and all is ok, just need to ease up on the chocolate a bit. I never used to really eat much sweet stuff, but it was starting to creep up a bit since I quit the booze.
Doc did say I've probably added 10 years to my life by quitting drinking.
Surprised she hasn't mentioned the camera, I thought it was a well known preventative measure for us 50+. I'll bet London to a brick you've got some polyps, if you smoke and drink it's a forgone conclusion.
The prep is an indescribable thing to experience, you have to live it to know it. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

It was at that moment I appreciated having put a shower in my back shed.
The air was still as the rising suns rays touched my head. I looked through bleary eyes at the steam wafting out the door into the crisp morning sky and couldn't believe it was here. The whole night had been spent writhing on the floor under the warm water, I'd long given up trying to control my bodily functions and just when you think "it's over"... it's time for Part 2 of the prep. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count.

I think I'll just stick with the 2 yearly bowel cancer screen, polyps or no polyps _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Just looking back on this one now and so glad I have good cover!
Being a private patient, everything happens pretty quickly. If I was at the mercy of the public system I'd probably still be waiting to see the initial thyroid specialist I visited back in November.
Dads mate has prostate cancer, no private health and he's having to wait months for things to happen.
Being private, the specialist (the 2nd one) was able to make a direct phone call and get me straight in (within 48hrs) for an MRI. The wait if I didn't have cover was 6-8 weeks. I did have to fork out $250.... a small price to pay.
Same with the PET scan, straight in with private cover, had to pay $750 ($400 back from Medibank Private) again a small price to pay. The wait for public is minimum of 12 weeks.
Very fortunate with my current employer, they pay for Corporate Gold cover with Medibank Private as part of our salary package.
It's now that I am so glad I do have this cover. We all think we're ticking along nice and healthy then, BANG, right in the kisser. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

We’re with Frank health insurance and pay $750 excess if we need hospital cover. I try to shop around to see who provides the best for our needs but it’s hard to compare apples with apples when doing the comparisons. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
