"Jimmy Peirson has been drafted into Australia's Ashes squad and will replace Josh Inglis for part of the tour as back-up wicketkeeper.
Peirson will join the Australian team ahead of the second Test at Lord's, with Inglis planning to return home for the birth of his first child.
Inglis will then rejoin the squad in England at a later date."

First Test.
16 June. 8:00 pm
Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Much interest around the Oz bowling attack.
Will the selectors play Hazlewood ? Neser ? If so, who misses out ?
With 5 Tests ahead, there's bound to be some rotation. _________________ Donny.

Boland picked ahead of Hazlewood (who is "fully fit").
Prolly a good decision.
How could they keep leaving Boland out?
Update:
And Broad picked ahead of Wood.
England select Broad, Anderson, Moeen Ali.
England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Moeen Ali, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson
............................................
"It will come as some surprise to the Aussies, whose early read on the Edgbaston surface was that it was likely to be a dry surface, possibly favouring batters more than bowlers. "

Really, for the Ashes, it's all 'bout the conditions.
Stokes wants it "fast and flat"... For Bazball. But that'd play into Oz hands. If it's like Oz, it makes it much easier for Warner.
Flat-Track Bully Smith has built his career off dead pitches. Just a teeny weeny bit of swing is enough to destroy his defective technique. To score runs, he has to swipe across the line of the ball to legside. Works on dead pitches, but fatal on pitches that are fair to bowlers. (Look at the latest example, where he was LBW to Josh Tongue in County Cricket, before Tongue's Test debut against Ireland.)
And Khawaja nicks off whenever there's sideways movement. When there's not... he scores 1000+ runs in a year.

Hazlewood and Gillespie think the same thing.
Hazlewood: "It surprised me when (Stokes made his pitch request). It might have been a furphy, who knows.
"But if I am England, I am probably going the opposite way.
"You are probably going green wickets that are doing a fair bit, and then back yourself to make more runs than us on those types of wickets.
"They come to Australia and the wickets are harder, flatter and faster. And we've seen the results."
Gillespie: "We know England's strength is playing on surfaces that all of their players have grown up playing on.
"That they have adjusted to and grown up playing with the Dukes ball.
"I find it interesting that is the way they will go.
"It plays into Australia's hands more.
"England rely really heavily on (James) Anderson and (Stuart) Broad. And they are not going to play every Test. Broad may do, but Anderson will play no more than three.
"The Australian attack is better equipped with their seam and spin to handle the more batter-friendly surfaces.
"Having better batting surfaces will nullify the impact of the Dukes ball, which has been the thing for (Australia's batters) for years, the seaming and swinging ball."

Getting excited with some anxiousness about the Ashes starting tomorrow night.
The poms believe they have it won with Bazball.
Our openers are our weakest link in English conditions. Warner is Broad’s bunny and Khwaja’s technique was exposed by India and likely to be exposed by England.
Harris is not good enough imo.
No issues with the rest of the team although would like to see Stark be less costly. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I love Smith's "defective" batting technique, as much as the Poms fear it. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Thanks fellas. Good info, esp. for me. Been having problems with my new p/c.
Going to contact my ISP, tomorrow, to change my data to Unlimited, so I can stream the Tests.

I don't think it's streaming Donny. Accourding to the Cricket Australia Website, it's being broadcast on FTA Channel 9, and on SEN and ABC Sport radio. It's not on Kayo or Foxtel from what I can see. 9 has a streaming app/channel, 9 Now which is showing the Ashes, and it's free. That would be your best bet IMO. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
