Sidebottom's kick is legendary. One of the greatest moments in Collingwood's history.
Seems fitting that he has the record of:
[*] Kicking the last Collingwood goal of the 2010 Grand Final Replay.
[*] Kicking the last Collingwood goal of the 2023 Grand Final.

What an amazing GF he played. What an extraordinary player he is.
I am just so happy that he and Pendles both have won another Premiership medallion. They are both such champions of the game.

Just 5 games to go to move into outright second all-time for games at Collingwood. And, unlike many other AFL players, he didn’t limp over the 300 game line. He’s barely 32, so there’s a fair chance he can play another 100, if he wants.
In the meantime, Sidey and Great Scott are the only 2 Collingwood players to bring home the bacon after they passed the 300-game mark.

^ that came out like The Fonz trying to say 'sorry' or he was 'wrong'...
For the millennials, The Fonz was a central character in a long running TV show called Happy Days

Great career, really - he's played in 188 victories. Beams, who was our next player taken in that draft, played in just 93 (82 with Collingwood) and took up the landscape oils after 177 games. It's remarkable to think that Steele has played 4 and a half seasons more since then and been instrumental in a premiership at a time when the other players taken in his draft have almost all been pensioned off. Steele is the only player taken in the first 30 draft positions of 2008 that is still on an AFL list.

He was amazing in the grand final. That goal in the last quarter was just legendary.
I think he and Pendlebury are the only dual Collingwood premiership players since the 1950’s.They’re in rare company now.Absolute champions the both of them.😀

^ The previous ones were Murray the Weed, Thorold Merrett and Mick Twomey, who are the only 3 players who were in both the 1953 and 1958 teams. You could add "Phonse" Kyne, who coached both those premiership-winning teams and also played in the 1935 and 1936 Grand Final wins.
Rare company indeed.

I just looked up those players you mentioned from the 50’s and only Thorold Merrett, who was at training the other week, is the only one of them who is still alive. So Pendles and Sidey are two of the only three living dual Collingwood premiership players. Amazing.

Thorold was my grandmother's favourite player.
To put these deeds into full context, if you want to find a Collingwood player who played in more premierships than Pendles and Sidey, you have to go back to 1936 and be talking the likes of the Collier brothers (both of whom played in 27-30 and 35/36). This is very rarefied air the two lads are breathing!
It's not just "hero" or "legend" status for Sidey and Pendles - we're talking "immortals"!

Beams story is one of tragedy for sure mate
Who knows how his career may have finished up had it not been for the untimely illness to his father
But at pick #29 in that draft he had a career of note still
He was a rising star nominee during his eligibility period Sidey wasn’t
He debuted in round 2 Sidey 5 weeks later
He won Harry Collier Medal as best 1st year player Sidey didn’t
Was a 3 time AA nominee in his 10 seasons Sidey has received the honour once
He amassed 90 Brownlow votes in 177 games Sidey has just 11 more votes in 132 more games (101 votes total)
Beams polled double digits in the Brownlow 4 of his 10 seasons Sidey has done it twice in 15 seasons
Beams had 3 x top 10 finishes in the Brownlow count Sidey has 1
Won his first best and fairest in just his 4th season took Sidey 10 years to win his first (Beams won his when Swan and Pendlebury were at the height of three powers in 2012)
Beams won 2 B&F’s total Sidey has won 2
Beams finished 3 times in the top 5 in the AFLPA votes for MVP Sidey has done it once
Beams has 2 x top 10 finishes in the AFL Coaches votes award Sidey has never finished in top 10
In his first stint with Collingwood (2009-2014) Beams was 3rd behind only Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury in total Copeland votes, Brownlow votes, AFLPA votes and AFLPA coaches votes which i think highlights where his career was at it’s peak
