Pies were unbeaten in Frampton's 3 solo ruck matches funnily enough

People shouldn’t be critical of him at all.
Firstly, he wasn’t recruited as Best 22. During the year he was more than handy in plenty of games. He even hit the scoreboard throughout the season. Nobody hailed him as a star yet suddenly people expected something of him that was unreasonable.
Secondly, he was played out of position in the biggest game of the year and hadn’t played for several weeks.
Happy to be critical of players who are supposedly best 22 and played in position yet are underwhelming. But as a last minute addition he kept arguably one of the best defenders in the league to minimal impact for three quarters and could’ve easily nabbed a few marks had his forward craft been better. I would be more critical of him had he been touted as a best 22 key forward and did nothing. He easily stopped Brisbane from getting 2-3 goals by thwarting Andrews drive out of defence.

Couldn’t agree more. His role was never about him being a proactive forward, it was always about negating Harris. Harris won the Lions best and fairest this year ( ahead of Neale )so that should give anyone an idea of the impact he had on their performances. Harris only had seven possessions up till three quarter time
The Lions missed a trick by not trying Harris further up the ground sooner. They would have learnt a ) that Frampton would have still gone with him as per the last quarter and b ) Frampton is out of his comfort zone further up the ground.
I’m sure Frampton would have liked his time again in a couple early marking contests but without making excuses for him, he was possibly so Harris centric, he simply didn’t make the ball his sole focus when it was coming in.
PS as a trade, he came to us as a future third round selection. His return in his first season was 16 AFL games and a premiership medal. Well done by both the club and Billy.

Billy will be a different player next season. He's been told he was never good enough and under Fly's Coaching he's now a Premiership Player. I am expecting him to improve. A 5% improvement from a player his size will have an impact.

To be quite fair to him, he was only in the team beacuse McStay wasn't. He sacrificed his game for a defensive purpose and, albeit it was at times difficult to watch, he mostly did what was asked of him, he stuck to his assignment with good concentration and there was, really, nobody else to pick for that role.

Considering what we paid for his services and his skill set his game was close to heroic.
Those that insist he was useless simply have NFI.

Would like to add my acknowledgement of Billy Frampton's brilliant game against the Lions. I thought he was wonderful. He played Daniher like a glove, and was instrumental in stifling his impact. His field kicking was fantastic, as was his aggressive movements up the ground.
Well done, Frampers!!

Frampton is the full back we've long been waiting for. Furthermore, as his confidence has grown he seems to be getting better and better. He's a great lock down defender, is quick, good in the air and is a beautiful kick and good decision-maker. Atm, he's our best defender imo.

^ I wonder Rudey if that pump up by Fly after last week might have been that verbal acknowledgement equivalent of an arm around the shoulder, might just have been the additional catalyst to give him the confidence to take the next step. It wasn't just a coach talking to a player, it was a real fatherly gesture, all while in front of his peers.
The other thing is, he looks coachable. He's really been sticking to his task.
That post match interview by BT with Billy was one that looked like a player who's loving his footy.
Go well young man.

One of a few shining lights, looking like he belongs there and playing with confidence. Well done to Billy!

My man Frampton!!! Equally chuffed by a big spoil or intercept mark as I am with a goal at the other end. Agree with all the positive evaluations of Billy’s performances to date. I for one was relieved when we picked him up and have been a big advocate of picking up ready made highly serviceable talls from the depths of other teams lists. So far have been pleasantly vindicated in the handful of games he’s played.
As others have stated his game in the GF was sublime…did exactly what was needed and although only had a couple of possies made a huge contribution to the win. Similarly with the other night…but this time amassing a handy 16 mostly effective disposals… as much as Daniher and Hippwood combined!
He’s the type of player we should continue persevering with and given a string of consecutive opportunities. As with what happened with Murph, when given consistent games he will grow in confidence and settle in even further…a big well done to CFC list management on this one.
Similarly as with other such recruits who’ve been instrumental to our recent past successes (Ball, Jolly, Leroy Brown and now Mitchell, Bobby, Frampton, and McStay), FA’s are the ingredients of a winning formula. A hybrid ‘money ball’ approach. Take advantage of any FS opportunity, recruit best available in drafts with the picks we have, but top up strategically from mature bodies able to impact almost immediately. There’s still a lot of diamonds in the rough out there waiting for an opportunity.
Irrespective of the outcome of this season, hopefully at seasons end we pick up a few more FA bookend KPP’s.
