I think Hine has done reasonably well.
He just doesn't deserve the almost guru like accolades on this Board.
I am somewhat bullish on our current squad and if we
jag another flag or two then he will deserve high praise indeed.
The next two years are Hine's and Bucks Waterloo!
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

You can only compare Hine to his predecessors and his contemporaries and on that score he is a top 3 performer. Many more hits than misses in the draft and has created a club that has fast become a destination club (not to Hawthorn's level yet) with the additions of:

* D Jolly
* L Ball
* C Tarrant (return)
* T Adams
* L Greenwood
* T Varcoe
* J Crisp
* J Howe
* A Treloar
* J Aish

Trying to remember Judkins prized signings:

* Woewodin
* C Steinfort
* A. Williams
* A Ukovic
* S McKee
I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

Then who gets the credit for A Rocca, Licuria, Holland, O Bree Wakelin, Clement ??

Clearly Hine has done a good job, but I guess you could mount an argument that the Hawks, Swans and Cats recruiters have done better. So what. At the end of the day it's the whole package of recruiting, developing and coaching which creates a great team. In recent years we've done better than most, but not as well as some. Hopefully, we will soon begin to outperform the best.

Could someone in the know that might mean JW tell me
what is the difference in Hines role under Bucks compared
to MM.
To me he seems to have a bigger role re trades.

When your title is Recruiting Manager that's what you do. When you become List Manager you get the whole shebang. Hine still gets out on the road and looks at talent. That's how he found Witts. He went to look at a player and saw this big raw lump running around and saw something in him. He has an eye for recognising talent. He targeted Treloar, Aish and Howe 18 months ago. That's forward planning.
Do not adjust your mind. The fault is in reality.

Can't argue with much of that except I think he's done exceptionally well, and yes, the next couple of years will confirm one way or the other.

We picked josh Fraser before him because the club didn't have a ruckman.
Mistake, yes. Criminal, hardly.

We also downgraded pick 3 to 7 that year for Steve McKee though. We could have had Fraser and Pavlich

Don't knock Steve McKee, he was an excellent ruckman. We weren't to know that they'd nobble him by changing the damn rules.

Hine must be under pressure now as the recruiting strategy looks very questionable

Yes, he lost his ability to identify young talent around the same time Buckley took over, funny that.
Defender...........

On the day before the first, Daicos created God.

Derek Hine in the gun

Post by Jez07 »

Stated on 3AW by 'Scoop' that Hine's job will be reviewed and most likely demoted. Gubby is currently doing a review of the football department and Hine is the most in the gun.
