Great post Redlight. This thread is all over the place. <snip>Redlight wrote:Ridiculous overreaction from the humourless few that somehow feel empowered by their own empty outrage.
The comments were a joke. Quite a funny one at that.
It is an insult to the actual victims of violence that people are more outraged by this than they are by a woman being beaten with an iron bar during a robbery.
Yet the headlines tomorrow will be all about a harmless joke told on radio. The discussion at workplaces tomorrow will be about a joke told on radio. Columnists will fill pages, talk-back will be inundated with outrage, outrage so deeply and sincerely held that will be gone by the afternoon. All of it impotent, pointless and counter productive.
And why? Because the joke was told by celebrities.
Be angry if it makes you feel better, but don't kid yourself that your attitude does anything to end violence against women. You're just creating victims where there are none, and leaving the real victims to their own devices.

Comments were in bad taste but that's not a hanging offence.
And didn't this happen last week? Why so long to get story together? Obviously not that important unless you want a headline to appeal tot the bogans with keyboards when the election is a boring as batshit.

Though it could be argued that's happened a few times this season

Om the day on 3AW dwyayne Russell said to Caro that everyone is lining up to get her on the slide next year and Tony Shaw said they were lining up,to hold her under too.
She thought it was all in good fun but apparently when Ed says it she's offended.
She reckons he's dirty on her for the article she wrote a few weeks back saying he should resign.
It's not that article Caro. It's the fifty articles you've written over the last ten years which attack individuals and are not based on any facts but set out to bring people down.
She admits that she'll go with the story without fact checking to get it first. She's a mean and nasty person and a sh1t journalist who just happens to be a woman. Stuff her.

I stand by my post which the Mods bumped here (fair enough)..
Anyone who thinks I went to far asking for Ed to be sacked should ask themselves if they would appreciate the same words said about any Woman in their lives...
No I didn't think so
Violence is not just action
Words can and usually do begin most violence..
If you think it was just boys being boys then we are still in the bad old days..

I heard it at the time and thought it was funny. Caro gives as good as she gets yet she found this inappropriate.
Please these 2 go way back I doubt Eddie would have said that about any other female.

Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy.

Eddie needs to <snip> or step down as president as he is embarrassing the Club.
For a smart guy he can be a bloody insightless goose sometimes & this again is one of the times.
What impeccable timing
Collingwood just gets the nod for a licence for a womens team & in the midst of the AFL's wonderful stand against domestic violence Eddie comes out with this sexist rubbish which can be interpreted as violence to women no matter his intention.
Take responsibility Eddie: Apologise & donate the money to DV & MND as a proper gesture

Biggest storm in a tea cup ever.
If Eddie said it about a bloke everyone would be laughing say it about a two bit hack who has had it in for Eddie and the club for years and it's front page.
Don't apologise Eddie in fact stand by your statements I'm sure you would find plenty to toss in a few dollars to hold her under for a extra few seconds as well.

Saying you will pay and support actions to inflict harm/fear is not to be joked about..
