Maybe the male Fujian surnames end with 'an' and the females with 'en'? Just like the European surnames ending with 'ski' and' 'ska'.

According to the commentators last night, it was a spelling mistake on her passport when it was issued, she's never bothered to correct it.

He originally spelt the title with an 'a'. Was fixed by the time you got here.
