I have a feeling the expectations of Mayne will be similar to the expectations that we had on Medhurst a decade ago.

Supporters are not expecting a lot, but will be hopefully pleasantly surprised by his contribution to the side. Here's hoping a fresh start will help prolong his career.

I don't think he can do a Medders but he's a Magpie now so let's back him in. At least we are making things happen in the trade period.

Well just announced we have Chris Mayne. Though some people here disagree I think we have done the right thing. We have a versatile player who applies great defensive pressure, who can play on both smalls and talls and can play anywhere between half back and half forward.

And sure enough, there's the thumbnail & headline on AFL.com.au:

Pies get their Mayne man
Collingwood signs former Fremantle forward as a free agent

I think they take the piss out of us sometimes.

Welcome aboard Chris.

Had my doubts about Varcoe and Howr, so just have to have faith that the recruiters get it right again.

Any update re the terms?

Wells only 1.5M over 3 years, so hopefully this is not as reported.

Welcome Chris!! I think he will be a very good player for us. He will be a player that will lift his game in a fresh environment. Freo was looking stale for a couple of years and I'm sure it's the reason why him, Ballantyne and Walters all dropped off under Lyon down forward. I can see him kicking 1 or 2 goals a game and helping keep the ball inside 50 a bit more than past years. He will improve us for sure. We have a bit to do to get back to flag contention but I see this as part of a stepping stone.

2 million over 4 years for an average player.
My Freo mates are happy as they have a good draft pick which is currently pick 23.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

People seriously underrating Mayne, take it most don't watch any opposition games let alone Freo's. He is super consistent, durable and provides exactly what our forward line needs at the moment.

I've always been a fan of his, getting him for free is just the cherry on top.
