MYSTERY surrounds the 2019 Australian Football Hall of Fame, which begins at 8pm AEST on Tuesday night (tonight).

Last year in November, the AFL Commission loosened the Hall of Fame criteria, which paved the way for the first female to be inducted.

Clauses relating to media and administrators being retired before they could be inducted have been removed.

The AFL Commission also changed the number of Hall of Fame inductees allowed in a year, which was previously set at six. Now as many as eight can be accepted.

Clauses relating to two 'recent player retirees' from the last 10 years being inducted have also been removed, while changes relating to eligibility for Legend status were made.

Now, one Legend may be crowned every two years, as opposed to the previous rule that dictated 10 per cent of all Hall of Fame members must be elevated to the Legend group.

The Hall of Fame's selection committee will also consider the elevation of a number of deceased candidates for Legend status ahead of its 25th anniversary in 2021.
2021 eh? Sounds like we'll have to wait until then for Lee. I wonder how many will be elevated in '21? You'd think Lee and Syd Coventry would be a big chance.

Sounds like they'll be no elevation tonight.

Introduced and inducted by Dale Weightman; The first inductee for 2019 is......
Brad Hardie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Hardie

Quick mention about his time at Collingwood. Said he was very grateful to play there but it just didnt work out. Said the club asked him to stay another year, but he'd decided to go back to South Freo in the WAFL.

Introduced and inducted by Wayne Johnston, the second inductee for 2019 is....
Ron Evans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Evans

Introduced and inducted by Neil Kerley, the third inductee for 2019 is...
Jim Deane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Deane

A touching tribute to those in the footy world who passed away in the last year. Including Colin Sylvia who was so young.

Back from a long break.

Introduced and inducted by David Parkin, the fourth inductee for 2019 is.....
Ken Hunter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Hunter

Introduced and inducted by Robert Harvey, the fifth inductee for 2019 is...
Trevor Barker https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Barker
Well overdue.

Introduced and inducted by Francis Bourke, the sixth inductee for 2019 is...
Michael Malthouse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Malthouse

A nice tribute to the 2002 team. Said he'd give up his 1980 flag to give it to them if he could. Mentioned Anthony Rocca was the heart and soul. He spoke about Jock McHale and breaking his coaching record. He thanked Eddie in his speech too. He thanked Nick Maxwell as a fantastic captain.

Unreal that he isnt already in. I suppose he only stopped coaching not too long ago.

Sheedy has already been elevated to Legend status. (Last year)

If Malthouse isn't legend status, I dont know what is. I'm sure he will be in the future. Sheedy was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008 and elevated to legend status in 2018. (He stopped coaching Essendon in 2007 and returned to coach GWS in 2011 and 12). Malthouse will be elevated in around 5 years I reckon, when he's about 70.

Worsfold and Maxwell doing a nice video tribute.

And that's it.

Six new inductees. No Legend this year.

As released earlier today:
Now, one Legend may be crowned every two years, as opposed to the previous rule that dictated 10 per cent of all Hall of Fame members must be elevated to the Legend group.
and
The Hall of Fame's selection committee will also consider the elevation of a number of deceased candidates for Legend status ahead of its 25th anniversary in 2021.

Unfortunately seems to be an after thought in the article below, but at least his name is still being mentioned.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/tou ... 54wat.html
Late Collingwood greats Bob Rose and Dick Lee could also be considered.

Thank you so much barrackers for sharing that.
Lee was also an inaugural Hall Of Fame inductee in 1996.

A three-time premiership player at the Pies, Lee won the league goalkicking award seven times, kicking 707 goals in 230 games.
I've always thought he should have been an inaugural legend. Here we are 24 years later and he is still yet to be elevated. Does the jumper he wore make a difference? Makes you wonder.

So one new legend will be named in 2020, with a few more to be named in 2021.

The article names Gary Ablett snr, Wayne Carey, Jason Dunstall, Stephen Silvagni, Greg Williams and Michael Tuck as the most likely, with Lee and Rose an outside chance. Sadly they are quoting Eddie which will turn a lot of people away from a Collingwood player.[/quote]

The great Jock McHale still has not got a statue at the G, still, after all this time, if they can put one up of bloody Hungry Bartlett, they can surely put one up of the greatest coach of all time. Long, long overdue now.

That's what I think Ed is lobbying hard for to be situated outside the ponsford stand enterance. I feel it will be done in time for next years 2021 season there will be an unvailing of it in our first home match at the MCG 2021.
I know the company that makes them one of their workers in fact and they have a design in mind all they need is the go ahead from the powers that be.
Must be more Collingwood recognition around and in the mcg for mine.

So tomorrow night will be the first of four consecutive nights of interviews and highlights packages to confirm the newest additions to the HoF.

There'll be seven new inductees and one new elevated legend.

https://www.youngwitness.com.au/story/6 ... /?cs=11836

These are the Collingwood players that I believe have a good case to be considered for the the HoF in the near future:

Harold Rumney
Billy Picken
Thorold Merrett
Darren Millane
Marcus Whelan
Ray Gabelich
And of course Dane Swan when he becomes eligible.

Obviously we wont get to see them all go in at once, but we might be able to see one go in in the next 4 days.

As far as legends go, Dick Lee must be elevated to Legend status. And it should have happened years ago. 230 games with 707 goals, 7x leading goal kicker, 3x premiership player, former Collingwood captain and team of the century member, 19 games for Victoria and one of the original stars of the game.

Other Collingwood identities that could be considered for Legends status in the future:
Michael Malthouse (Joint with WCE and other clubs. A solid premiership player and a superstar coach. Only recently got in the HoF itself).

Jack Regan (The Prince of Full-backs. Snubbed in the AFL ToC. Considered the best fullback of the VFL era by many).

Syd Coventry (Only he, Tuck and Reynolds are 4x Premiership captains. Syd of course was captain of the mighty machine, winning 4 in a row. A Brownlow medallist and Collingwoods ToC captain).

Peter Daicos (A bit of an outside chance, but he really was a superfreak and the first of his kind).

Albert Collier (6 flags, a Brownlow, 200+ games) & Harry Collier (4 flags, a Brownlow, 250+ games).

From Channel 9:
"As far as Collingwood is concerned, we were completely snubbed for the team of the century, which was an insult and we've not forgotten that and we haven't forgotten Lou Richards either.

"And I'll tell you what else, the MCG better get a Jock McHale statue up or else we might even pull out of playing there."
